Jordan rides for Tilt, and Satori, and also happens to be the creator of Inside Scooters. He recently got this promo done for Satori's Winter Collection, which includes his new signature shirt. Just straight up solid and clean riding from one of my favorite riders. Check it out

Jordan isn't only the founder of Inside Scooters, he also kills it for Tilt on the daily. His section came out really good in my opinion, and showcases his dialed style and tech skills. Lessons from Rollerbladers.

A rollerblading website recently posted a conversation between a few bladers discussing the relationship between blading and scootering, and their respective pasts.  They raised a lot of good points, and it was cool to see them respecting us for choosing a different vehicle to ride and have fun on, despite how easily they could hate on us after years of receiving hate themselves.  Rollerblading’s history was brought up, and it made me think a little.  Blader Sam Cooper said:

 “Unlike blading the sport grew slowly at first, managing to build a small but solid industry of brands just before the boom hit. It’s the brand owners who have handled the boom in a much better way compared to kids who owned the majority of blading’s biggest brands in the early nineties. It’s these freestyle scooter brand owners who have made the difference and continue to grow the sport and industry with their business acumen and passion for the sport.”

Over the past few years, there has been a growing emphasis on supporting “rider-owned” companies and rejecting those “corporate, businessman-owned” brands.  I’m not gonna pretend to be an expert on rollerblading, but from what I can tell in this article, that’s how it was in the 90’s for them…except it was the rider-owned brands who made up the majority of their industry.  So not knowing how to handle their success, not being able to sustain the incredible growth they had, the bubble eventually burst, and the industry basically died out.  They hit the top of the actions sports world- -X-Games- and were kicked out in 2005. 

So how do we prevent this from happening to us?  These rollerbladers say we’ve already avoided their mistakes by having a core group of solid brands before our own boom hit.  The first big companies include brands like Phoenix, Proto, District, Lucky, Tilt, Envy, and Madd, the majority of which are not owned by riders, but are still all around today.  It seems like these bladers would embrace the “big business” brands…Looking at the other side of the coin, consider skateboarding.  The biggest action sports industry has perhaps the biggest anti-corporate movement, and not without good reason.  Skateboarding has had multiple booms and crashes throughout its history, and they will all tell you that corporations are part of the reason for it.  So where does that leave scootering?  It seems to me that we fall somewhere in the middle.  We don’t actually have much for corporate money wanting in on our sport yet- look at Red Bull.  They posted the Devin Supertramp video of Dakota Shuetz and the other Lucky guys on their Facebook, and took it down almost immediately.  Whatever interest they had in supporting scootering was quickly extinguished by a legion of couch commenters.  And these guys are spending upwards of a billion dollars per year in marketing (900 million in 2010).  Hooking a guy like Kota up would be a drop in the ocean for them.  If they don’t think that’s worth it at all, I think we still have a long way to go before we really have to worry about the implications of corporate takeover. 

Is the bubble going to burst like it did with rollerblading?  Are our roots strong enough to last through a drought?  These bladers seem to think so.  What can we do to make sure we don’t experience the same crash they did?  John Adams says it perfectly:

“We shouldn’t be trying to have the largest industry possible. We should make sure the industry we have is healthy and sustainable. Absolutely we should be reaching out to the youth and getting them excited about rollerblading scootering, but we ought to be able to do that without tearing others down.”

The bottom line is that all companies, regardless of their participation in the sport, are vital.  It’s been said before that they’re all pieces of the puzzle.  If we want to have a sustainable future we need to have brands who have a true passion for scootering- they need to care for the riders and the industry…but they also need to have proper business know-how to handle their growth responsibly.

Skatechurch Sesh

If you follow us on Instagram, you'll know that we recently posted some pictures while riding an indoor and asked for trick suggestions.  We got a ton of comments back saying what tricks we should try to film...some good, some bad, some just plain weird (s/o to the kid suggesting every x-ride combo imaginable).  We got a few of em done and threw in a couple ideas of our own.  It was a short session so the video is quick, hope you enjoy.

Next Satori promo to drop came from Jordan Jasa. You know those riders that you sit around waiting impatiently for them to drop new clips? In my opinion Jordan is one of those guys. Stoked that he is a part of Satori, and word on the street is they will be having a full length video featuring all of the guys in the future. There is a fakie feeble to 360 heel in here, so yeah. Inside Exclusive: Super 60 with Tom Kvilhaug and Jordan Jasa

We're bringing it back.  Tom and I got this done yesterday at Mokena Skatepark in Illinois.  It was super hot and humid but we managed to get some rad footy.  If you would like to make a Super 60, you can download the intro here.

Tilt Scooters Presents Jordan Jasa

Jordan dropped some new footy, finally. Easily some of his best footage yet. Every clip was legit. If more riders took the time to find spots for their edits, and learned to film solid lines, we would have a stronger street scene for sure. Loved the banger too, you don't see too many riders throwing 540s down decent gaps and sets.

California Photo Blog pt 1

So Tommy Daddono and I flew out to California this week to stay with Tyler Wheeland.  The week started out with Tyler and Stefan Hefner picking us up from the airport and riding downtown LA at 1 am.  This photo was taken the next day, when we went to Vista to ride with Andrew Broussard, Josh Young, Jon Reyes, and Tyler Bonner.  Vista is so good to ride, pretty much everyone rode and got clips.

  We were on our way to a ditch spot when Jon and Tyler pulled off the road to check out this rail spot.  It took a few tries for him to pull this double peg, but he slid pretty much the whole thing, and tricked out.  You can check the footy in the upcoming Elyts DVD.

  On Monday we went to this gap over a rail.  Erik Feenstra trucked and 180 whipped over it in his Socal Stuff video.  So while the bar was set pretty high, Tommy was able to get a cool clip and picture before we got the kick.  Twhee with the photo cred here.

 

 This is another spot from Feenstra’s socal video.  In that he double peg to back lipped it.  Tommy rides no pegs so he opted for the hurricane.  The rail was already taped up in a few spots, its gonna need a massage after being shredded by scooter riders.  Tyler again with the photo.

  This photo was taken at this banks/ditch spot in Laguna Beach.  Pretty much everything about the spot is really gnarly.  I got worked trying to get a line here but ended up sticking this half cab heel into it.  Tommy also filmed a clip, and Tyler again shot the photo.  This is also the best spot if you’re trying to go fast and powerslide your wheels away.

  On the way home from the Laguna banks Tyler remembered this pole jam and we stopped at it.  The pole is definitely taller than it looks in this picture but that didn’t seem to be a problem for Tyler.  Tommy also blasted the sickest footplant fingerwhip off it but you’ll have to wait to see that footy..

This is just part one of the trip blog.  Tommy unfortunately left tonight but I am still here till Friday night, and we have pictures from Tuesday and Wednesday.   For the record, Tyler is filming for a full length with Stefan, and Tommy and I are also filming for our own.  More on those projects in the future.

Jordan Jasa Sky High Promo

As many of you may or may not know, Jordan Jasa recently parted ways with Blunt Pro Scooters. This was a personal decision that Jordan felt he had to make. He is now riding for Sky High and Tilt.

That being said.. this is Jordan's Sky High Promo. This video features some of the best tech/street riding I've seen in ...forever. Jordan Jasa....Throwaway?

There comes a time in every riders life... actually no. There comes a time in a very select few riders life, that they reach the point where their "Throwaway" videos can be watched with 100% enjoyment leaving you wondering, "If this is throwaway...what is considered good footage?" That's what I'm asking myself after watching Inside-Scooters Founder, Jordan Jasa's latest video. So much good stuff in here, great street riding for sure. Check it out and comment.

Jordan Jasa Park Edit

Inside-Scooters Founder, Jordan Jasa, doesn't ride park that much. But when he does, you won't find him blasting the quarter pipes, and hitting boxes. Instead what you get is the video below. I know there are a lot of tech/street riders out there right now, but I don't put too many over Jordan when it comes to having natural skill. Difference between myself and most people, is I noticed this in Jordan early on, and it has only proven to be more true with each edit released. Jordan Rode Ohio.

Jordan recently rode some parks and spots in Ohio while with some other midwest locals. This is footage that he got while he was on the trip. Most of the tricks that were landed were fairly easily for him, which I think is a testament to how good Jordan is getting. Some great clips in here for sure though, from one of my favorite riders. Yes, I liked him even when he just rode in his driveway.

JIT

I don't usually like to post my own videos but Steven wanted me to do a writeup and so I figured I might as well explain what exactly JIT is.  You may know that I and my friend Issac have been to Tommy Daddono's house in Chicago before (to film for Transit 2).  I had wanted to go back ever since we left but I had never found the time to do so.  Finally, last month Issac and I road-tripped it 4 hours over there to ride during my spring break.  Also staying with Tommy was Jeff Mroz, who again was on the Transit 2 Tour.  So that was pretty awesome, being able to have a little reunion with a few of the guys.

While at 4 Seasons Milwaukee we got to meet pro bmx rider Ryan Nyquist, which was cool.  Luke, the owner of Pitch Bike Park was nice enough to let us in after hours to film, thanks again for that Luke!  On Saturday we went downtown to ride street.  Even though we got kicked out of a lot of spots we still had fun.  Issac and Matt Rittler (Wisconsin rider who tagged along) killed themselves on this gnarly 10 stair with a rail.

The craziest thing though, was when we saw a van full of kids from my school (4 hours away) yelling my name and waving at me.  Apparently there was a choir trip to Chicago and they just happened to be driving along the same road where we were riding, pretty amazing for that to happen in a city the size of Chicago.

After the trip ended Issac and Tommy didn't have quite enough footage for full parts, so I filmed Issac in Davenport in Iowa and we got some clips of Tommy while in Ohio this past weekend.  We had a few difficulties with getting footage to work (transferring clips from mac to PC is a nightmare) but finally today I put everything together and uploaded the final video.  I had a lot of fun making it, and hope you guys all enjoy it.

Jordan Jasa , or Jordan Scott as he is known to many in the SR chat, is one of the most technical riders out there. Although he loves scooter riding, there are other things in life that keep him content. Jordan enjoys playing soccer, moderating scooter forums (according to facebook), and of course music. Now as you know, music is a big part in riding as well as in life. It gives us the extra boost we need to land those steezey tricks or in Jordan's case, those smooth as butter nose manuals. I not asked but told Jordan to sit down, put on his iPod, and tell us all the first 10 songs that pop up. Here is his list:

1. Fame- David Bowie
Anarky 2 song. David Bowie is pretty awesome. Listening to this song obviously makes me think of Kenny's part, and pretty much the whole video. Its a classic. You should go listen to this song and/or A2 right now.

2. I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor- Arctic Monkeys
The Arctic Monkeys are like a Brit pop group. They have really upbeat songs that just make you happy. Love this group.

3. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)- Journey
Journey...it seems like everyone knows "Don't Stop Believin'," but couldn't tell ya a single other song by em. Which is too bad, since they really are a good band. This song is pretty dang epic. I wanna say I heard it in a skate video once? Not sure about that, but its a song I could def see in a hammer video.

4. Natural Anthem- The Postal Service
Pretty much anything by The Postal Service/Death Cab/Ben Gibbard I can listen to while chilling. The lyrics don't start till about a minute left in the song, and its really interesting to listen to the song build up until they start.

5. My Generation- The Who
The Who is definitely up there as one of the best bands ever. This is one of my favorites from them. This song is one of The Who's most memorable, most recognizable. Pretty much any young person can relate to it.

6. Down on Me- Janis Joplin
I downloaded some Janis Joplin music on a recommendation from Margaret. Took awhile for me to get into any of her stuff...guess its just not exactly what I was used to hearing. She def puts a lot of emotion into her music, which is awesome.

7. Andy, You're a Star- The Killers
The Killers are an awesome band. Hot Fuss, the album this songs comes on, also has two songs that were featured in two of my favorite videos of all time- Matt Andrus Sponsor Video, and The 2008 Josh Young Combo/Tech video. Love the whole album, and this song.

8. The Girl Is Mine (w. Paul McCartney)- Michael Jackson
Despite the kind of sick person he was, Michael Jackson was really an amazing artist. This song also features Paul McCartney, who happens to be my favorite Beatles member. This song is just pretty soft and mellow, but positive and easy to listen to. I like it.

9. Don't Bring Me Down- Electric Light Orchestra
I downloaded an Electric Light Orchestra album after becoming obsessed with their song, "Mr. Blue Sky." I then proceeded to become obsessed with the band for a few solid weeks. They have a really unique sound, and have some catchy songs, "Don't Bring Me Down" being one of them. You should check it out.

10. Another Brick in the Wall- Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd is pretty much legendary. I downloaded their most famous album, "The Dark Side of the Moon" after a suggestion by Sean Kane. I was pretty into that stuff, so another friend told me to listen to a different album, "The Wall," which is where this song comes from. Amazing stuff.
