KENNY GRIFFIN- LIVING IN STANDARD + INTERVIEW

Kenny Griffin has been a young buck on the come up for a minute now. Getting his start with Lucky, he moved onto a pro spot on Anaquda and has been progressing with no signs of stopping.  His newest video, "Living in Standard," is his best effort yet and has been revered by many riders since it dropped yesterday.  OG Brian Boston said it well when he remarked "Looks like he has so much more potential too."  I hit up KG to get some more details behind the video and what it takes to have a cool miata.

Jordan Jasa:  How long did you spend filming?

Kenny Griffin:  I spent about 7 months filming.

Damn haha shorter than I expected. What made you decide to go SD instead of HD?

I just wanted to change it up Ive never filmed anything in standard and I like the feel/vibe and then once we filmed a few clips in standard we just decided we were going to do the whole thing like that.
Also 7 months is the longest I've really filmed for a part before so to me it felt like a really long time.

Yeah for sure, you can definitely tell you took some time on it. What cameras did you guys use then?
We used a vx1000 s/o kushfart  and then Damion used his HVX but you can put it into standard definition mode and it works pretty much just like a Vx.
Word. Which trick took you the longest? Or what was most satisfying to land?
Honestly the front Board fakie to frontside cab front Board whip on the white rails took sooo long and I was getting kicked out for the last attempts and had been trying it for legit 2 hours then just landed it perfect that felt pretty good to roll away from
Dealing with getting kicked out on top of trying to land the trick is definitely super stressful, must have felt nice. Were most of the spots local to you or did you travel anywhere?
There was a good amount of local spots but we traveled a lot. We went to SF then some places a few hours a way that we had spots planned out to go too. Also I went to San deigo and got some clips.
Miata clips were cool too, tell us about that thing.
Haha well I've always kinda been into cars then recently I bought that miata and I love it and am always sliding it or just clutch kicking. Then after riding a spot at this school Damion told me to bang a few donuts then disappear down the hill, so I did and it ended turning out to be a really cool intro everyone seems pretty stoked on it ha, but my miata will be slammed soon s/o to jared and his miata.

Hard top is necessary if you wanna be cool.
Hahha yeah but droptopboyz.
But seriously, how much did hairdressing school cost?
Hahahhahahhahahhhahaahaahaah
Really though good job on the video, you and Damion killed it.
Thank you I appreciate it, didn't really think people would back it this hard I'm stoked.

Ethic DTC The factory story

Okay, so we all hear about China factories and how bad it sucks to work there.  Well at least in the Ethic factory, you can't say they look unhappy.  This video goes through what it takes to make a Pandemonium deck, and then has footage of the team riding inside the factory as the workers and their families hang out and watch.  A couple of them even try to get in on the scoot action.

FRIENDS & FAM

So last month, the Friendly and Fam Hungry crews took a little trip over to New Zealand to ride with the YesPlease guys prior to the Auckland street jam.  In other words, the best guys south of the equator all met up to make one amazing video.  The filming and editing is top notch, putting some HVX's to great use.  Spots are insane, and the riding is unreal.  This is the best video I've seen all year.  Rider list alone should make you want to watch it- Jon Archer, Kevin Austin, Royce King, Darcy Altavilla, Regan Thompson, Nathan Flemongo, Reece Jones, Mark Abbott, Jasper Russell-Dennis, Lawrence Rubin & Taylor Nicholls.

Blunt / Envy DVD - PUNCHLINER - part 2

The Envy boys are all so insane.  This is the second part to their DVD "Purple Eyes," in which the team rides spots and parks in France and Spain.  So many crazy manuevers I can't even begin to explain.  Jessee shuts it down at the end per usual.  I don't know how he can send himself like that.

Lucky Scooters | James Gee switch at Woodward

So James did ride at Woodward (see below video) and actually came up with a sick video, all switch. It's rad to see people getting into switch with real tricks.  270 back lip, and the last clip are super good for switch.

ADVCT l Woodward Homies

Blake and James went to Woodward, but filmed everyone else instead.  So while there's no footage of those dudes, all the homies killed it.  Jared Jacobs, Kevin Closson, David Coe, and way more are featured.

ALCHEMYST ~ David Tiefenthaler

Alchemyst's videos are always proper, and so is this solo part from David Tiefenthaler.  With a gnar style reminiscent of one Matt McKeen, David throws down on rails, sets, everywhere really.  Loving the alternate angle cam (VHS?).  Always looking forward to the next one from these guys.

PDXXX - MAJOR BUMMER

Portland's scene is starting to get pretty sick.  With Turnstyle, Phoenix, and TSI all based there, lots of riders are moving there to work, as well as for school.  Chase Robertson filmed this video of the boys cruising around downtown PDX.  Shoutout to Jake Hershey for landing his first handrail!

TSI | Road to SD9

Once a year, the entire US scooter scene converges into sunny San Diego, California for the annual competition at Claremont YMCA Skatepark.  TSI was one of many companies that had a presence, and this is the video they made documenting their trip there.  The team all kills it, with guys like Hep Greg, Travis House, Dan Holm, and plenty more featured.  Mankong's front board heel was wilddd.  Good video, good vibes.

Envy and Fasen at Woodward West

Quite a few of the riders from the Fasen and Envy Teams were killing it at Woodward West recently, and Anthony Bustos was there to get some really good shots of the guys. below are some photos of Derek Seay and Raymond Warner. and keep checking ISB for more updates from Envy and Fasen.

KOVU Presents - Kai Saunders

'

Wowww.  KOVU KREW is an upcoming group out of Australia with some really good unknown riders.  Take Kai here, for example.  I've never heard of him until this video, and damned if I'm not gonna remember him.  This is a fantastic video, this kid shreds.

Throwback Thursday: Matt McKeen Scooterology

It's over 8 years old, and it is still every bit as amazing as it was back in 07. Matt McKeen put the street scene in check when this video came out. You knew after watching this video, that he was going to be leading the pack for a very long time, and most people's eyes, he still does today. No tricks out custom scooters in this video, just OG razors.

Matt McKeen recently left long time sponsor, Addict. The details on why aren't known by many yet, but I think most people have a pretty good idea of where Matt might end up. For now, check out this classic below.

Trevor Pritchard District/Eagle part

Tpritch has been working on this video for a hot minute, after getting on District/Eagle last year.  One of the top East Coast rippers, Trevor shows his skill on the handrails of New York and the surrounding area.  Switch back lip was so dialed.  Lip to fakie was perfect as well.  Filmed by Jcott and Kong.

LA Night Ride

Josh Young and Chema Cardenas met up with the Source boys in downtown LA to film this late night shredding video. They rode from 11 PM to 5 AM, the best time to be riding spots in a downtown area.  Late night cruising with the boys is one of the best things ever, and this video shows that (even with the Morrissey track haha).

Tommy Daddono

Tommy has always been around the Satori crew, and over the past year or so he's managed to stack up this footy.  He put together a little edit and Kirk and the boys decided to put him on!  One of the most well filmed and edited videos in a minute.

Brad Ackermann, Ruben Rodriguez and Pol Roman in Barcelona

Rudy Garcia put this video together of some AO dudes shredding the new Elliot Arnold deck out in Barcelona.  Everyone comes through with good clips, but Brad really puts on a clinic.  I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing the BCN spots.

Armageddon 2012 Raw: Jackson Manzie

Jackson sent waves around the scooter world with his 2011 California video, so it was a no brainer for Proto to put him on the team.  Unfortunately Jackson developed a pretty serious back problem and wasn't able to film as much for Armageddon.  But, he did come through with a really rad part, retaining one of the best styles in the game.  I'm pretty sure some of this is Lux footage, so if you've lost all hope on that coming out at least you have this.  I feel lucky to have spent a week with this guy in 2012, and I hope the day comes when he can ride full force again.

ADVCT l Cameron Poe

Okay, Cameron calm down buddy.  Cam has shown in the past how he can shred gnarly handrails, but he really steps up the creativity with this one. Fakie 50 270 whip, board pop to rock ride, board pop whip manny...this guy is one of my favs.  And now he's on ADVCT.

Armageddon 2012 Raw: Brandon Kilbury

Raw, Edited, doesn't matter, any BK footy is good footy. This is Raw footage from 2012 showing a lot of the hard work BK went through to film his Armageddon section. I personally love Raw footage, there's something really enjoyable about watching something that hasn't been edited in any way. Check it out below. One of the most dialed riders out there for years now.
