Anything from Jon is always a treat, one of the nicest dudes I know, on and off a scooter, and possibly the most talented when it comes to the flat/tech game. Good stuff.

Jon Reyes Flat Edit 4 + Exclusive Interview

Jon had a tough year in 2013, a terrible knee injury, and an extremely rough recovery. It all paid off though, because Jon has finally finished and released his Flat Edit 4. Jon's Flat Edits are some of the most popular edits to drop, and I am sure this one will be no different.

- Jon, I'll be the first to say I am glad we're sitting here discussing the fact that you finished your 4th Flat Edit. Especially because at one point last year we were sitting here worried that you might not ride again due to your knee injury. Talk to us about that injury and how it happened.

Thanks for reaching out to me Steven. Yea after recovering and tripping to Cali, it's done. Well, April 7th 2013, Rye Airfield Competition was the day it happened. Half way through my run I bailed on over flipping this hip, stuck my leg out, and "pop pop pop", those exact feelings. Went to stand up and collapsed. Right there I knew I messed up hard time. May 7th was the surgery, located at Hospital of Special Surgery in New York City. A lot of the top pros from the east coast go there to get work done. 8 months and 17 days of rehab, relearning the basics, and trying to push past that, here we are today.

- You received a huge amount of support from the community and industry with your knee, how did it feel getting that kind of support from not only people you knew, but also people that you didn't know?

One of the craziest feelings ever was the first phone call I received place an order on one of my sig decks that were part of the fundraiser. I said "Hello, Spokesman Cycles" and I heard "Wussup fool?!?!" Yup Raymond Warner. Literally teared when I knew he was calling to be the first to order. Minutes after Ryan Gould, following 51 others who called to place orders for the decks. To this day I'm so thankful for Phoenix for donating all those deck, Spokesman Cycles, for holding the headquarters down for shipping them and everyone else who donated. Also Kenny Carlile for creating www.FixJonsKnee.com, a way of spreading the word by hosting raffles where all the proceeds went to my medial bills. Forever grateful.

- You did a LOT of physical rehab and training during your recovery, but I've always known you to be a pretty fit guy. That being said, how was the whole rehab process?

This was nothing like any other workout session. Relearning how to walk was probably the craziest experience ever. My mind knew what I had to do but my body was on pause. I had that mental block for the longest time.

- How good did it feel to finally get back on your scooter once you were all healed up?

To be able to pop a nice bunny hop was the day I knew all that work paid off and not to stop and keep going.

- Ok... Flat Edit 4. You've filmed for normal edits before, how much different is it to film for a flat edit?

So stressful. I've watched so many bmx flatland edits and dream to be able to make it possible on a scoot. There's only so much you can do with 110mm wheels and tiny pegs, but you can for sure allow your imagination to create.

- Gotta be real with you dude, some people don't respect the flat game. Does that bother you at all?

Not one bit. I ride for myself, and theres one thing that drives me to be different. To be able to create or invent a trick is the best feeling ever. R-willy must know exactly what that feels like hahaha. I'm never satisfied with a clip if I know someone has done it already or will come close.

- Regardless of what people think of flat riding, you are definitely inspiring a lot of other riders to push their flat game further. How does it feel seeing younger riders imitating your tricks in their own flat edits?

I've been getting flat clips and vids constantly from kids around the world. It's sick to see others try to create and invent as well. I can't wait to have one big session with all the flat dudes from around the world one day, maybe future competitions would be a way gathering.

- You did a lot of filming for this out in California, and it seemed like spent a lot of time with R Gould and R Dub, how'd that all go?

The Homies! Even if I went out there without my scoot, I still would have had an amazing time chilling with them. Ray going in with the filming ideas and R-Gould giving me the luxury of staying at his house. Ah that coffee ice cream..mmmm…. I so grateful to know great people like that, and without them this video would not have been possible.

- How are things with Phoenix? Any plans for a new deck or sig part in the future?

Couldn't ask for a better relationship. Phoenix is all ears, and is all about rider ideas and production of the strongest stuff. Yessir, right now we're working on the Revy V2 and a lot more of us will have sig decks this year, that way all the kids will have all the choices they want. Also coming out with sig handle by Phoenix, which I'm sure everyone pretty much knows about already. This year will be exciting.

- Well Jon, I am seriously stoked that Flat Edit 4 has dropped...and to be honest I haven't even got to watch it yet.. So let's wrap this up, and I'm gonna go hard on that Play button. Any last words or shout outs, let em go now man.

Jon Reyes Park Throwaway

These are some leftover clips Jon was holding onto before he got hurt.  Since he won't be riding for a while, he decided to release these.  Hang ten hop up hang ten was the sickest thing.  Hopefully it won't be too long before we see him back 100%.

Jon Reyes Fundraiser

So if you haven't heard, Jon Reyes recently tore his ACL, and is going in for surgery soon.  The thing is, he doesn't have health insurance, which means he'll have to pay for the several-thousand dollar surgery out of pocket.  So the shop he works at, Spokesman, has teamed up with his factory sponsor Phoenix to try to raise money to pay for it.  His signature deck is being offered for sale at $200, a huge discount from the normal price.  And they're being shipped for free, making the deal even better.  The money from the deck sales will go towards helping him pay his medical bills.  This is a really cool thing for Phoenix and Spokesman to do, and I hope it works.  Being without health insurance is a scary thing, if you don't have it, please try to get at least a basic coverage plan, it's very worth it.

Of course there's not really any real record but this is probably the longest one on video.  Even with a torn ACL, Jon is still killin it.  He should probably just take off his back wheel, since he doesn't even need it.

Phoenix Scooters Combo Contest March 2013

I would have so entered this a few years ago.  The details are in the video, but to reiterate, make a video, any length, showing your best tech combos, and post it on Phoenix's facebook page by Sunday the 25th.  Top three places get prizes.  After Dan and Jon explain the contest, they show some ridiculous clips to get you inspired.

Evan Larson/Jon Reyes: 2013 Phoenix Diagnosis

Here we have Evan and Jon chillin alone together in a hot tub, in the dark, doing scooter checks and and talking about Phoenix's plans for the year.  If that's not enough to make you watch, there is some really sick footage about halfway through.  Clip at 6:28 was too fresh.

Jon Reyes Learning Flair Whips

Jon Reyes isn't exactly known for his flips or flairs, but they're there. He recently went to Black Diamond with Dan Barrett, and it looks like Colin Dasilva and Joe Armstrong. Dan wasn't riding due to an arm injury, so he was stuck on the camera. Jon makes it look pretty easy to learn flair whips haha.

During the end of the video, Joe explains how the skaters weren't letting any of the scooter riders hit the box, so naturally Jon being Jon started to sesh the box regardless. One thing I like about Jon is that he won't take shit or take being disrespected. So when a skater almost runs into him, despite Jon already being on the box, Jon takes it into his own hands. Supposedly it all ended well with a handshake...But that's besides the point. Was good to see a scooter rider actually stand up for themselves for once. Too many riders are afraid to actually do something about it when it comes to being disrespected. Props to my dude.

Jon Reyes Flat Edit 3 ft Special Guest

When I realized that Jon Reyes had finished his Flat Edit 3, I got hyped. When I realized that Tyler Bonner was going to be in the video as well, I got a little too hyped. Everyone knows Jon is a beast when it comes to tech/flat riding. But most people don't know that Tyler Bonner is one of those riders who doesn't have a weakness with his riding. It also doesn't hurt that since he's been injured, he's spent some time riding flat. Together these two make this one hell of a Flat edit. Yeah this scooter check is nice and all but you know what we all want Jon...you keep teasing us about it...mhm, you've been talking about a flat edit #3 for a while now.

I also am intrigued by the titanium parts, I wonder if this is gonna be a trend in the industry or just a one-time deal kind of thing.

This might be one of my favorite edits featuring Dan and Jon, and it seems like we've been seeing a lot more of them this past year. Which I have no problem with. Technically these guys bring riding to a new level. Definitely check out this edit they made for All Is Possible.

Here's some rad clips from Jon and Elmer at Throgg's Neck skatepark.  Elmer straight killed it, definitely hyping me up for his part in Proto Armageddon.  Backside sugarcanes are so crazy.

Phoenix Pro Scooters: Woodward West Fall 2012

Phoenix Pro rider Josh Toy, put this edit together of footage from the Phoenix Team at Woodward West. Really liked the edit, and it has Capron Funk's double front flip which was really cool to see. Needed more dirt footage though, seemed like only Josh was getting down, gotta stick Dan or Jon on there and see what's up haha. Check it out below.

Throwback Thursday: Jon Reyes Micro Sponsor Me

So this video sticks out to me for a few reasons. One of them being that it was the first time I had really seen Jon Reyes footage. It was around 2005 that I started hearing about Jon Reyes a bit more, and I had seen a few clips, and was always impressed, but I'd have to wait a bit longer before this edit was released. It was when Micro released the fact that they would be sponsoring US riders, that everyone and their mother made a "Micro Sponsor Me"...including Jon Reyes. While he didn't make the Team, he did produce a great classic edit. You can really see Jon's tech roots in this video.

Currently Jon is known as one of the leading, if not the leading, tech flat rider. He's been a long time rider for Phoenix Pro Scooters, and just got his first signature deck. Definitely came a long way from the stock pro models he's riding in the below video. Check it out.

First of all, I'd like to say I really appreciate the effort the editor went took to find a unique, unknown song.  Secondly, a 4.25x20 Reventon sounds really really good.  I know I might wanna look into getting one of them, I was hyped when I had the normal Reventon but became unhyped on the short length.  So this one might be just what I'm looking for.

Jon Reyes & Dan Barrett practicing for the ISA International Championships

Here we have Jon and Dan having some fun in Times Square, NYC.  This is the kinda thing that's missing from the New York scene videos.  I remember the first Scooyork video I ever saw had the crew just cruising the square at night in and out of the traffic and it was so cool.  This is a little different than that but still cool.
