Throwback Thursday: Chris Gascoigne Web Edit

Arguably one of my favorite riders to touch a scooter. Chris has always been so stylish with his riding, that it was impossible to not appreciate how talented Chris was, and I haven't even gotten into his Supermans yet. Chris is a true OG of the sport, and one of the pioneers of the Southern California scene. He was an original member of the DXG crew, and today he is running Affinity, which is selling some of the highest quality bars on the market today. This edit has some extremely old clips, and youll be able to tell, by the stock bars, and pro model he's riding. But that doesn't affect his riding at all. Style and innovation all over this edit. It's been a pleasure to be able to call Chris a close friend, and to have ridden with him on many occasions. Check it out below.

The Ride Wire: Back Again

During the early years of the sport, forums were an integral part of scooter riding.  With so few riders spread throughout the world, they would congregate online, forming a tight-knit community.  As time went on, riders logged on and off, trolls had their heyday, hackers and spambots wreaked havoc, and the quality of forums slowly declined.  Today, somebody is trying to change that.  Chris Gascoigne, already an accomplished rider and industry guy, has resurrected one of the most popular forums, the RideWire.  He recently opened the site to the public and I hit him up to get the full scoop.






Jordan Jasa:  What is the RideWire?

Chris Gascoigne:  The Ride Wire is a community for freestyle scooter riders.

The original Ride Wire forum was started by Brian Boston a few years back.  What made you want to start it back up?

Yea that's right, the original Ride Wire was created by Brian Boston. Brian actually helped me on a few steps of setting this new website up, he's a great guy.

I saw a need that the scooter community had that wasn't being properly addressed. In the past the Ride Wire was such an awesome community and I wanted to try and bring that vibe back. I've worked really hard on the forum side of things and am really happy with the way it has turned out. I feel that it's a great starting point for the new Ride Wire.

What makes the RW better than the other forums?
That's a great question. My answer may sound kind of contradictory but it isn't. My main goal for the Ride Wire is to build a community place built on Unity. After all, you cannot spell community without unity. What sets the Ride Wire apart is the fact that we are taking advantage to technologies that are available to us to better serve our members. We have integrated a Thank/Like/Dislike system already. We've also brought back the Chatbox which is proving to be a popular place already. The main things that set us apart is support and feedback. We have a suggestion sub-forum that gets taken seriously. If you have an idea submit it, I'll do my best to make it a reality. As long as its in the best interest of the community of course.

That sounds awesome.  Is there anything else you'd like to add about RW?

Certainly. My hopes for the Ride Wire is to create a community free of hate and teaming with support. It is my personal belief that the sport is in our hands to do what we want with. We catch a lot of negativity just because we do what we do. We should be constructive with each other instead of tearing each other down. Throwback Thursday: 951 Epic Weekend Video 2

Definitely a Throwback Thursday, and we're going back to 2009. This is a video I used to watch all the time, it just has a really good feel to it. It features the best riders in So Cal back then, and most of them are still some of the best in So Cal now. Riders like Tyler Wheeland before he was a T Whee. Monky when he did lookbacks and boosted quarters. Also featured are So Cal pioneers, Nick Darger, Chris Gascoigne, Kody McQueen, Raymond Warner, and a lot more. It's just a good solid old edit, back when Pro Models were whats up.

Here are some clips of Chris getting radical, mostly on a box inside the Megazone.  Feeble hard 180 fakie smith combos were nuts, don't think I've ever seen those done before.  You could say they were..epic.

Razor Video 12

Razor USA releases a video every two weeks and this video has 3 riders John Radtke, Jason Beggs, and Me(Chris Gascoigne). Jason has killer clips in this video and John seriously throws down. This was filmed over the course of about one week. Ricky Wernicke edited this video and it turned out great. I personally love Ricky's editing style, that mixed with John Radtke's filming brought together by Acoustic Productions made this edit awesome. Keep an eye out for future Razor videos to be released every two weeks on mondays.

Phoenix Pro Scooters and Chris Gascoigne

By now word has leaked that Chris Gascoigne and Phoenix Pro Scooters have gone their seperate ways. I took the time to sit down with Chris and ask him a few questions regarding the matter. Check out the interview below.




Steven – So, lets just get right to the point... you left Phoenix, is everything good between you two?

Chris - Everything is fine actually, Phoenix is an awesome company, it was just time for me personally, to do what's right for me.



Steven - You say "What's right for you". What exactly did you mean by that.

Chris - What i meant is, Deep down i'm a californian and that is where i need to be to be truly happy. I wasn't preforming to the best
of my abilities at Phoenix because deep down i wasn't truly happy. So i had to make a choice and do what was best for me.



Steven - That's very respectable. I understand you had a signature deck through Phoenix, what will happen with that?

Chris - The deck is going to be discontinued. I am sure Phoenix will release future decks in the white color so I will be happy to see that.



Steven - What's your favorite memory while with Phoenix that you can recall?

Chris - Ah, I have many but the one that sticks out the most would have to be, being in the office in our meetings about product development, the insight to
quality design that Phoenix has is amazing. Being there and learning and sharing ideas as a rider to help develop and create awesome product is my favorite memory


Steven - So Chris, do you have any plans for the future?

Chris - At the moment, i have a few doors open for me, but right now I just want to ride and have fun. Reconnect with my scooter and enjoy the sunshine and riding with all my friends.



Steven - Do you have any last words you'd like to say?

Chris - Yes I do, I just want to take this opportunity to thank Phoenix for all the support they have given me. It was and still is very appreciated.
i would also like to thank my friends and family for supporting me.

Chris Gascoigne NW Clips

Chris has been living up in Oregon for a while now and put this little edit together of clips he's filmed while there. Super stylish and smooth like always. This is going to be the last edit Chris puts out for quite some time. Anything more he releases will be Phoenix Pridays, Phoenix Rider Exclusives/Promos, and Production videos. I know that when he does release his next video, it will be worth the wait.

Chris Gascoigne Super 60 and Interview

First off, this "Super 60" is more of a "Fantastic 45." At least thats what I was told, since they forgot a timer to actually show what time it was at. Despite that, Chris drops a ton of super good clips, the tap to manual came out of nowhere for me. He definitely has frontflips dialed now too.

Chris has been part of Phoenix for quite some time now, and is actually moving up to Oregon soon to work full time with them. In order to announce that, I asked Chris a few questions about himself and the company.

Jordan Jasa: So Chris, how did you first get involved with Phoenix?

Chris Gascoigne: I got involved with Phoenix at Cooter Con 9, I was riding an ultra Pro deck and Tom asked me if i wanted to try out one of his decks, I agreed and we established a relationship from there.

What's your official position/title with them now?

I will be handling Sales, Marketing and Pro Team Management.

So now you're moving up to Oregon to work for them, how do you feel about that?

I feel awesome, It's an amazing chance to learn and be apart of a growing company who makes nothing but quality product.

What do think is in store for Phoenix in the future?

We have a lot of plans in store for the future, i am not entirely at liberty to openly discuss these things yet, But Keep checking our website (www.phoenixproscooters.com ) our facebook page and of course, Inside Scooters as we will soon be a supporter.

Besides working for Phoenix, what do you have planned for the future?

My plans for the future are rather simple, I just want to be as productive as possible in all my dealings, and to simply progress in my riding.
