Brandon Loupos Super Sixty

If you haven't heard by now, Brandon Loupos has been killing it down under. With huge consistent flairs to recently being only one of a few people in the world to land a double backflip. I've personally been waiting for a new video of Brandon and thanks to Nickeh Hodgskin, it became a reality in this super sixty.The skatepark appeared to be super crowded that day, About 150 riders shreding the park and Brandon still pulled it off, despite a knee injury as well!

Eric Magray Interview: A New Company On the Horizon

Eric Magray is an OG rider from Levittown PA, a place known for having some sick riders. Eric was extremely active in the sport a few years ago, then took a break to pursue other things in life. Well Eric is back now, and he's got one major goal in mind for 2011...His new company. Read the interview below that I recently had with Eric to learn more.



Steven: Name, Age, Location?

Eric: Eric Magray, 19, Levittown PA

Steven: So Eric, you've been around for a long time dude, but you kind of vanished for a while...What happened during that time?

Eric: Haha, I've been hearing a lot of that. Basically I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. At one point I was doing freelance graphic design, I wanted to go to school for mechanical engineering, I got involved in one of those network marketing businesses, and having a girlfriend on top of that just took up all of my time and energy. When I do something I tend to put all of my focus on whatever it is I'm doing.

Steven: When you started to get back into riding, were you aware of all the changes the sport had gone through, or was it all really new to you?

Eric: It was soooooooo different. For starters, I logged into SR and seen there were THOUSANDS of members. Then there was all these new companies, I thought that was pretty awesome how the sport actually grew a lot since I've been away.

Steven: Now that you're back in the sport...what was it that inspired you to start up your own company?

Eric: When Jon Reyes told me that almost all of these new companies are owned by rich scooter dads or investors I instantly wanted to create something different. I am a welder/metal fabricator/machine operator by day so I know what it takes to make parts. I have always been very interested in owning a business which is why I tried freelance graphic design and network marketing. And I have designed and made scooter parts for fun since I was 15! Why not just start a scooter company?
Steven: What are some goals you want to accomplish with your company?

Eric: Too many to list, but I will share a few overall/ultimate long term goals,


-To design, fabricate, and sell the highest quality scooter products on the market.
-To have an amazing facility where riders can come chill, shred, buy stuff, and take a tour of the shop to see how their parts are made.
-To have a presence like no other! The "company" is only on paper and doesn't REALLY exist, the people do though and we will be the life of the scooter community!


Steven: Are you going into this project solo? Or do you got some partners heading into this with you?


Eric: I've got plenty of friends and riders who are helping out with whatever they can but when it comes to the finances and actual dirty work of starting and running a company, its all me. I can guarantee you that if anyone else ever owns it besides me, it will be a rider, and one who takes pride in the sport.

Steven: So what kind of products can we expect in the near future? And do you plan on sponsoring riders eventually?

Eric: Within the next few months expect brakes, axles, pegs, and bars. Of course I will sponsor! Its all about the riders, without riders there would be no sport.

Steven: When do you think we will start seeing some products Eric?

Eric: My goal is to have flex brakes available by end of February but with the way things are going the brakes AND axles may be available before that. Keeping my fingers crossed =)

Steven: Any last words or shout outs you wanna make Eric?

Eric: I had deja vu writing this! Haha, I remember writing and email with Steven Tongson in the "To:" line with SR in the background.


But anyway, I have to shout out to first and foremost Dan Barrett, for all the
things that actually count in life and all the times we've had in the last 6 years. Jason Griffiths for all his help recently with everything. Jon Reyes, because without him coming here that one weekend to ride I probably wouldn't have started riding again. Andrew Broussard for all the good talks and support. Steve Tongson for this interview and his interest in helping get this company off the ground. All the L-Town riders for being so gnarly and testing prototypes. And the best for last, Darlene Magray (a.k.a. Moma Dukes) for all the support and doing the best she can to help me whenever I need it<3.


So it looks like sometime in the near future we're going to start seeing some new products from another rider owned company, and to be honest, I couldn't be more stoked. 11 Year Old Jake Anderson Edit

There's something about seeing these young kids shredding that is really inspiring. Jake is only 11 years old, and already he's developing a really smooth style. Seeing this video has to leave you wondering where Jake's riding might be in a couple of years. I hope in the near future we can see some more videos and watch Jake progress.

SD 5 Outro Productions Video

At first glance I was stoked to see someone took the time and energy to produce this video, It is very clear that Phillip Long took the time to Film and Edit this video. I was lucky enough to attend SD5 and I actually have a clip in this video. All the riding is amazing and lives up to par of what to expect at the San Diego Scooter Competition Series. All the riders who attend bring their "A" Game and never a let down.

I personally have results from 7th to 1st in the Pro division, 7th being Brian Murphy, 6th Chris Gascoigne(me), 5th Jason Beggs, 4th Capron Funk, 3rd Dakota Shuetz, 2nd Raymond Warner and topping it off as no surprise, Tyler Bonner!

There were many companies in attendance from Blunt, D.S.A., District, Eagle, and Epic, to Phoenix, Scooter Zone, Lucky, Inward Scooters and Proto. Some set up booths and others were there to enjoy the show. In any case, SD5 proved to be another good year despite lack of planning and official flyer and announcements. Many purchased the plane tickets and made travel arrangements in good faith that the show would go on, and oh did it ever!

I would like to take the time to personally Thank each and every person who showed up either to ride in the comp or just to support the rapidly growing sport of Scooters. It was a great way to kick off the 2011 year and i would say we're off to a good start. Thank you for taking the time to read this and remember.. This guy is sooooo sick.  Remi's got super crazy style and the insane tricks to match.  I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing those tuck knee grab/no hander things.  I can't imagine what it would feel like to get caught up doing that trick...instant death haha.  Really gnarly video.

Royce King Latest Edit

Ok, so I'm a little pissed off that this didn't get up sooner. I believe it was Luke Maff who emailed me to get this up, but I got buried with stuff to do and never got it up here.

Royce has been one of my favorite riders to watch for a couple years now. He has so much style its ridiculous, natural style nothing forced. This is a park edit, but rest assure Royce can destroy street if he chooses to. Such a great edit, check it out below.

The End of ECX? Not Quite... Article by Ryan Upchurch

Usually I write the articles on Inside-Scooters, but when my close friend Ryan Upchurch who also happens to be a Pro Team rider and former employee for ECX told me he had written one, I took the back seat. The article below discusses the recent closing of the ECX Action Sports shop.

ECX Action Sports may not be a name that all of you are familiar with, but it’s the shop that got me started, along with many riders in the Tri-state area. After enduring rough economic times as long as they could, ECX Action Sports will be closing the doors of its retail store on February 28th. It is a sad thought for me and many other riders in the area because it’s been like a home away from home. If at all possible I suggest that you try and make it in before the store closes for their blowout sales, and just to experience the ending of a legacy.

ECX Action Sports has been open since 1997, originally being a skate and paintball shop. Soon after opening, Mike Lashbrook, the founder and owner of the company, began exploring the world of scootering. To give you some perspective of how long ago that was, there were no Razor Pro Models, there were no Yak wheels, and there was no such thing as an aftermarket scooter company. From there, Mike went on to carry the Razor Pro Model and Yak wheels soon after their release. When kids started riding and tricking on the Razor Pro Model he started his first freestyle scooter team. It was at this point, around the year 2007, that I started scootering, and bought my first Pro Model from ECX. The shop was in a rather small building, but had such a friendly, upbeat atmosphere. They had a PlayStation 2 hooked up to a big screen TV that we all played guitar hero on. It was really the place to come in and hang out. For me, I had found a home away from home instantly, not just some place I bought my parts from. Seeing that it was only two blocks away from my local skate park (Newport), I was in there all the time. From this I know you all can imagine how ECX is so different from today’s scooter companies and stores.

Mike has always been a great guy to me, and everyone else he has ever been in contact with. He is generous, funny and really cares about making people happy. That’s why it was such a hard decision for him to close the store down after holding out for over a year of hardship. For me and many others in my area, we will no longer have a place to go to hang out in the summer and cool off. We will not have a place to work on our scooters or even a place to walk in and get something for our scooter when we break it down at the skate park. When I didn’t have enough money for something, he would always hook me up and keep me on my scooter, and I am so grateful for that. Mike is truly a great guy.

On a rather encouraging note, just in the past year Mike has opened up shopecx.com, an online store specializing in freestyle scooters, parts and accessories. Within a year he now has over 500 different scooter parts to choose from, which is the largest selection on the internet! He plans to continue with it, and only get bigger and better from this point on. Mike has also hinted at the idea of opening a mobile store with a state of the art trailer that he can take on the road to different skate parks up and down the East Coast to help promote and grow our sport in addition to providing support for our team when we go to contests.

Just yesterday we took a trip as a team to Black Diamond Skate Park in Moorestown, New Jersey. For some of you that don’t know, Black Diamond is a skate park that doesn’t allow scooters. Mike rented the park out for us for a second time so that we could film and ride at a great park where no other scooter riders have ever been. It was a great experience, and I speak on behalf of the team, and few others that attended, that it was a truly memorable sesh. During which we filmed for our DVD, which we titled “Butter” during the winter of last year.

Butter began as an idea of myself and Mike about a year ago, and was put off soon after it had begun due to some setbacks with team rosters changing and lack of proper filming and editing equipment. I resumed the project as filmer and editor just a few months ago and plan to have it out for sale within the next two months or so. Last night summed up the filming of the DVD at Black Diamond, and now all that is left is the editing, production, and packaging of the final product. I will release a teaser soon, and it will be posted up here on IS. From the teaser, I hope that all of you are eager to see it!

To sum things up, ECX Action Sports will be closing, but a new era will begin with the main focus now Mike's online store shopecx.com. Mike is adding new products every week and will have a new and improved site design within the coming months. Stay tuned here on IS for future updates, articles, and media from shopecx.com!

French ID Lyon Trailer

This looks to be some sort of preview for a video featuring a few members of the French ID team.  All of these guys look like younger upcoming riders, so you may not have heard of them before.  But don't let that fool you, these guys definitely throw down some good stuff.  I have to say I'm definitely a fan of the first rider, Martin Andre's, riding.  I don't know when this video will come out but when I see it you can be sure to know it'll be up on IS.

Am Spotlight Chase Moorman

Am Spotlight is a new feature we're adding to this site designed to help the underexposed get the exposure they deserve! Every week we will post a new "Am Spotlight" video with a few questions for the rider so that you, the readers can get to know them a bit more.

The rider featured is a young heavy hitter out of Southern California. He has been riding for 3 years, his style and ability on a scooter shows promise for the future. I will be keeping an eye out for his name in the future as i am sure it'll be a big name some day.

SD5 Comp Footage

Chris Gascoigne Announced as Inside Scooters’ Newest Crew Member

Yup, those of you whom have been watching closely might have noticed Chris working with me on a few IS-related things.  First was the forum Inside View, which Chris set up and administrates.  You also might have noticed him working with me on a few interviews at SD5.  Chris has been one busy little bee this past year, getting a job with Phoenix and moving up to Oregon from his home state of California to work full-time.  In addition to that he manages to remain one of the most stylish and smooth riders in the game.  It is with great pleasure that I tell you all that Chris will be joining the team of Steven and I at Inside.  I caught up with him and gave him the 5 W’s to find out more about him and his spot on Inside. 

  Jordan Jasa:  Who, exactly, is Christopher Pearson Gascoigne Junior?

Chris:  Chris Gascoigne is 22 years old, I live in Beaverton Oregon. I work for Phoenix Pro Scooters and as of recent Inside Scooters.

What are some of your expectations for IS in the future?

I expect IS to expand features wise and continue to be the #1 source for Scooter Related News.

When did you first have an interest in being a part of the IS team?

Well from the moment it started to be honest, But at that time i didn't have much to offer Inside Scooters as a whole. So i waited and gained skills and the chance opened up so i snagged it.

Where can we see some examples of your work?  Videos, images, anything else like that.

There is not a whole lot of my work out.. yet. I am in the process of filming and editing a few projects with Phoenix pro Scooters along with some Graphic Ad work and so on.

Why do you feel you are going to be an asset to IS?

I feel I will be an asset because of my networking abilities along with the experience i have gained in this industry over the last 9 years. Expect big things to come for inside Scooters and all the readers who continue to support the best and original scooter news network.

Jake Odonnell Interview

Jake Odonnell is on the Zero Gravity Pro Team, and for good reason. Jake has such an amazing style. I can't help but have an admiration for the riders that make tricks look effortless. Jake is one of those riders. He lands everything as smooth as possible, and rides with tons of speed. I had a chance to shoot Jake some questions, and you guys can check them out below.


Steven: Name, Age, Location.

Jake: My name is Jake O’Donnell, I’m 16 and I live in Maple valley, Washington.



Steven: What age did you start scootering and what Year?

Jake: I started scootering in 2007 when I was twelve, so about four years now.



Steven: Why did you decide to start riding scooters?

Jake: I first started ridding scooters as transportation around my neighborhood in Kent, Washington. Every once in a while some kids up the street would try tail whips off their home made ramps and I thought I was the coolest thing. After receiving my first Razor A2 model for Christmas, I started ridding more and more. In the summer of 2007 I moved to Maple Valley and met Mike Montgomery from Lucky Scooters and I introduced him to scooters. Later that year, we attended Cooter Con 3 (I think?) and after seeing Jessie macoluso I was hooked.


Steven: What would you say the hardest trick was for you to learn when you were starting out?

Jake: When I first started ridding, tail whips were actually my hardest
trick haha. In fact, I told myself I didn’t need them and road for about a year before I got them down.



Steven: You have a very distinct style when it comes to how you dress. What are some clothing brands that you wear on a daily basis?

Jake: Honestly, 90% of the clothes I wear are from thrift stores and such. I could care less if I'm representing DC or Volcom or any other clothing brand. I just find clothes that i like and wear them i guess haha.



Steven: I gotta mention your hair dude haha, yet another distinct Jake Odonnell characteristic, Do you gotta style it everyday?

Jake: Hahahaha I actually just got my hair cut, so its quite a big shorter now I'm pretty sure i wont be letting it get as long and thick as it was before. I just wake up and wash it! haha


Steven: What riders did you look up to when you were starting?

Jake: When I first started ridding I really liked the look and style of Daniel Warwick, Martin Kimbell and Phil Lagettie. I still look up to these guys, and I would like to give them a huge thank you for inspiring me.



Steven: Your tricklist is very simplistic, consisting mainly of whips, barspins, manuals, and some spins. Why do you prefer these kind of more simple tricks as opposed to all the bri flip/whip combo type tricks?

Jake: I feel like you don't always have to throw bri flips/whip combo type tricks to have fun, or to be "good" in scootering. For me at least, i would rather be recognized by the way and style i do my tricks, rather than the difficulty of that trick.




Steven: What are you favorite tricks to do now?

Jake: I love doing any tricks that people don’t usually do, or have thought of. Personally, I get really bored ridding park because I find it really hard to get original on those obstacles. I would just rather hit a set with a nice kink or some street gaps. No offense to any park riders!


Steven: Are there any tricks that you just can not land, no matter how many times you try? If so, what trick(s)?

Jake: I have never ever been able to throw outward Bri flips or scooter flips.


Steven: Who do you enjoy riding with most and why?

Jake: Since I live in the Northwest, the scooter scene here has really grown in the last couple of years since started ridding. Whenever I go out and ride weather its street, or park I’m always ridding with Mike Montgomery. Mikes not only my best friend, but I think I speak for both of us when I say we both really push each other and help each other achieve new tricks and the goals we have set for each other. Although I really enjoy ridding with anyone that is just super chill and wants to have fun.


Steven: What does being on ZG mean to you?

Jake: Being on Zero Gravity is really important to me. I love Todd, and all the guys on the ZG team, they’re all super chill and fun to ride with. I’m really happy I can ride for a team whose mission is teach riders all around the world about God. Also, I’m thankful that I get to test, and ride the strongest and most stylish parts in the scooter industry. Being a part of ZG has really help grow my relationship with God, and a ton of riders. I’m really stoked to see what Zero Gravity will bring all of you in 2011!



Steven: Where do you see the future for scootering?

Jake: After ridding for almost four years, I have really been able to watch the sport grow. In a couple of years I could really see scootering getting as much publicity as any other extreme sport like skate boarding or bmxing.


Steven: Why do you continue to ride scooters?

Jake: I’m going to continue ridding scooters because it relieves a lot of stress, allows me to express my personal style, and none the less I have super fun every time I ride. Since I started ridding scooters I’ve met some of my best friends, gotten to travel, and have had a ton of fun while doing it. I love competing at competitions, releasing new videos, and just ridding in general. I really want to still be ridding when the sport blows up in the mainstream so I can tell people that I was a part of it all when it was just a forum on Scooter Resource.

Jake Clark Scooter Check

Phoenix Pro Scooters rider Jake Clark takes you through his whip (or more appropriately, bar) and then lights it up over at Truckstop Skatepark in Oregon.  Jake had a strong showing during the SD5 competition and definitely demonstrates his consistency again in this scooter check.  Boosting so high, throwing 9's....what will Jake do next?

Evan Larson- Truth Clothing

Truth is a small clothing company being started by Evan.  Hoodies, shirts, hats and more will be up on their website soon.  A bunch of riders from the Endub have some clothing and I think I saw some of them down at SD5 so you might have seen their stuff already.  If not, you can see Evan wearing a shirt in this edit.  It's just a day session park edit but he comes through with some pretty sick clips.

Michael Goumaz Eagle-Sport/District Promo

I first heard about Michael when I worked for Eagle-Sport and he was trying to get onto the European Team, and represent the company in Switzerland. I was impressed by his riding from some of his first videos I had ever seen. He's now on Eagle-Sport and also sponsored by District, and his latest edit was recently finished. The video is really good. Some of those grind combos are just amazing. I caught up with Michael and had a chance to get a short interview in with him. Check it out below and his latest edit below that.


Steven: Name, Age and where are you from?

Michael: My name's Michaël Goumaz, I'm 17 yo and I'm from Montreux ( Switzerland )


Steven: How long have you been scootering and what got you started?

Michael: I've been riding for 5 years now. I was skating in Montreux, and I saw BenJ riding his scooter. I found that really cool and I wanted to try. That's how i've met BenJ.



Steven: What riders do you look up to in the sport? and why?

Michael: I look up a lot about Ludovic Pistat. He's really amazing, news tricks each day and crazy style. He's a local rider from Montreux, I think it's one of the riders with who i ride most often.



Steven: Tell us about a normal day for Michael Goumaz.

Michael: A normal day ? Ahah, I usually wake up and call Benj or Ludo to know if there a session planned or not. If not I go to my local park ( montreux ) where i chill with friends and ride. Then i come back home and maybe go out. :)



Steven: Do you like to listen to any music when you ride? If so what do you listen to? If not, how come?

Michael: Of course i listen to music while riding. I usually listen US Hiphop. Like Necro, Mop, The diplomats.. A bit of reggea or electro goes well sometimes too.


Steven: What is one trick that you really want to land in the future?

Michael: I'd like do triple combos, with rewind and/or bartwist. For example Bartiwst to whip rewind.



Steven: On your scooter right now, what is your favorite part?

Michael: I actually ride a complete District Scooter. And it's really amazing, so light ! Perfect for grind. So i think my favorite part is the deck :)



Steven: Where do you see the sport going in the future? And why do you still ride scooters?

Michael: When i see some kids of 11 years old riding like pros. I think that the sport will go very far. I'm still motivated to learn tricks to them. For the moment i'm not too old, so i still ride as far as i can !
