The Disapearing District Decks?

As everyone who has been following District knows, we have all been waiting for a while for the Decks we have heard so much about. It seems like there has been a lot of rumors going around as to where the decks are, and when they are coming. Well below is a statement written by Dave Ward of DSAScooters, the US Distributor for District products. Dave got all of this information from Marcel himself, and anyone who is wondering about District, need only to read this statement below to have all things cleared up.

"District Decks

The anticipation and excitement around the arrival of the new decks by District has been amazing. In fact all 250 decks arriving in the US were presold to dealers months ago. There have also been many rumors and stories about the delays in shipping and when they will be arriving in the US. As the District distributor in the US I thought I would update everyone on the deck, bars and forks and their expected delivery.

District is part of the FSP Group out of the Netherlands, the decks, bars and forks are not made in the Netherlands they are manufactured in China. There were several prototypes made for testing and sent around the world to riders with various riding styles and stature. After extensive testing the decks were ready for the first manufacturing run. If anyone has ever dealt with manufacturing in China you will know that there are many challenges and this was no exception. Marcel Oosterveen, the owner of FSP Group, spent many weeks in China setting everything up for production before turning it over to his Chinese partner. Marcel stayed in contact with China daily and was told that everything was going as planned. He returned to China as the decks were supposed to be in the final stage of production to find that they were several weeks behind schedule and the quality was not what was expected. Several phases of production had to be started over and others were too far along to change. We will not go into all of the details here, let’s just say that Marcel was very upset about the delays these issues caused. After straightening out the manufacturing Marcel returned home thinking everything would be completed and shipped in a timely manner. Surprise! More delays. After resolving several more issues the decks are finally ready to ship and guess what “Eyjafjallajokull”, no that’s not a curse word that’s the name of the volcano that erupted in Iceland causing disruption in air travel around the world. More delays! As of today it looks like products are starting to ship out of China and we should receive the District product here around the middle of next week. However, Marcel has still not seen a finished deck! We will be the first to see the first production run of the District deck!

Many have asked when the next run of decks will be available. Additional decks will not be put into production until the first run of decks are inspected and tested by the many riders who have purchased them. All input from riders will be considered before the deck goes back into production.

Quality and affordability are very important to Marcel and I know that he is very upset at the delays and the fact that the decks may not be up to the high quality standards he demands for all of his products. Because of the delays and his inability to inspect the decks quality Marcel is offering a substantial discount to his distributors on this first run of decks. We will be passing this discount on to all of our dealers in hopes that they will in turn pass the discount on to all of you who ordered the District decks.

The District deck is the most affordable deck on the market with a look and feel unmatched by any other. I am sure all those who purchase the deck will be not be disappointed with their decision to buy the District deck.

Dave Ward

In short, what a part of this means...is that due to complications and miscommunications in China...These decks may not be up to the standards we at District would have liked them to be. So we ask EVERYONE who has purchased a District Deck...Let US KNOW what problems you have with the deck...so that we can correct as many as we can for the next production. When you get your deck, if you have, find, or notice any problems upon riding it for a month or so...PLEASE email me at this email address...and let me know the problems you have. We need your help, THE RIDERS, in making the best possible deck, and the most affordable deck for you guys. Thanks.

Email me here with any problems you have with your deck.

  2. I believe 1,000 were produced on the first run. That amount is divided and split up to Distributors all around the world.

  3. when he said middle of this week is he talking about the week of the 26th or the first week of May?

  4. okay so with there problems with china and having these decks not up to the standard that they're suppose to be at. what if one of us consumers break a deck? if we tell you the problems about our broken deck will we get a replacement or refund? like does district have a warranty. because this is kind of making me iffy about my pre-order haha not trying to be a dick or anything im just curious

    ReplyDelete
  5. I don't think there's a general rule for what they'll replace.
The volcano is a mofo! I couldn't go to Montreux because of it:( But now I got a refund, and instead I'm going to Paris for the Dissidence Street Jam! YES!

  6. Nice Johan!

And Dalton, a refund is not set in stone right now...we will discuss it soon, and if its a possibility.

And to the person above DMazz...The decks should be arriving in California on the 26th.

  7. I have to agree with dmazz. I kind of want to cancel my pre order and order when the new batch comes out because I don't want a defected deck or something that isn't the quality it should be. Hmm

  8. Nathan and Dalton...cancelling your preorder is completely up to you guys.

Gotta remember here...with EVERY one piece deck thats hit the market...there were always flaws...TSI, Lucky, Phoenix...etc. So yeah, it's just something companies need to deal with...and so do the riders who buy the decks. No deck in this sport is EVER going to be unbreakable, or be perfect right out of the gate...it takes time. IF (big IF) there are problems with our first run of decks...we go back to the drawing board...and work out those problems so we can correct them for the second run.

  9. Yeah, I fully understand, but what I got from the article is that the decks aren't as well made as they should be which obviously makes me feel like I'm not getting what I should be. Like selling someone a cd with a with a scratch on it. Lol I'm sorry, I probably sound like a real prick!

  10. Nathan, you don't sound like a prick at all. I work for District, and I was one of the people who was originally worried about our decks. But you gotta remember...We all haven't seen the finished product yet...which is something we at District are anticipating a lot...for all we know, our worries and concerns are all for nothing...and the deck will be just what we wanted. But in the chance that it's NOT as good as we thought it would be....we had to write this letter and let all of you guys know. That is also why we are proposing to all our Dealers and Distributors the price cut on the Decks.

  11. what hes trying to say is they still might be what your exspecting but there not sure because marcel could not inspect them so they probably wil still be a wonderful deck were just not positive

    ReplyDelete
  12. so if they are arrving in california on the 26th when is an estimated date they will be at shyhigh or any over the other places that sell them?

    ReplyDelete
  13. As soon as they arrive at DSA...they need to be inspected and sorted out. Once that is done, they will be shipped that same week to all Dealers who bought them from DSA. So expect them to be at all the dealers who bought them by that next week. If that is set to change for any reason...I will let you guys know.

  14. alright thanks for the info Steven

  15. This isn't all that good to know, i have pre orderd 2 (for myself) and i guess i'll ride the shit out of the deck and if it break i'll just go back to my trust tsi!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I hear you...but coming from a TSI rider...matter of fact, Ryan Upchurch and HepGreg both District deck testers....were previously TSI riders...and both never want to ride anything but a District ever again haha...Not bashing on TSI, I got one too...but Its mostly a back up scooter now...The balance and feel of a District is basically unmatched by anything i've rode...and Ive rode a LOT of decks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The target for District in General is to produce high quality stuuf for reasonable prices. Our decks are the lightest in the market, are the ONLY ones with a perfect BALANCE and are cheapest real scooterdecks (Im shutting out all toybrands out there).
The China factory is OUR property but at the end its (still) runned by Chinese because we cannot be there each day.
Its just because of the delays (raw material suppliers, Chinese NewYear, Printing factory) and the update videos and pictures what made us decide that we cannot stand 100% behind this first production. To avoid warranties we offered a big discount for this first production. You can accept the flaws that CAN be in it and take the discount. Or dont accept it and dont buy it, simple. Its more the looks then the quality that we are discounting.
AGAIN this are the LIGHTEST decks on the market WITH the best (unbelieveable) BALANCE. This means, and we told that many times before that the decks are NOT un-breakable, thats NOT where we made them for...

  18. what quality defects are you worried about? sloppy welds? wrong type of material? what could they really do to mess up the deck that bad?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well said boss.

As for what quality defects there MIGHT be on this first production run...That is for us to find out ourselves once the deck is in the hands of you guys. For all we know, everything is fine. Like we said, we haven't got a chance to see the finished product. It could be anything from sloppy welds, to a deck not being heat treated properly....We don't know yet...and will wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So how is this discount supposed to work? I mean Iohgivafuck if it doesn't look nice as long as I have a district deck then im set.. but yeah back to discount, How is this supposed to work?

    ReplyDelete
  21. yeah, when you say discount. how much discount?

cause if its like £5 off thats rubbish. but if its like £20 off a £60 deck then thats ok.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The discount, if you guys read correctly...is coming from us to our DISTRIBUTORS...From there, our Distributors have agreed to pass it on to their DEALERS. What you guys need to do, is contact the dealer who YOU are buying the District Deck from. If they are unaware of this statement made by us...SHOW THEM. And ask them what discount they will be giving for these Decks. If you got anymore questions about that, you guys can always email me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. hahaha thats was what i was thinking jordan

    ReplyDelete
  25. =)

Well DAMN Jordan at least change it...lolol!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Regardless were steven try to push all people to to take a discount and giving the wrong signal, I like to state that we NOT selling this cheaper because of weakness. AGAIN AND LAST TIME: this is all about printing and paintjob !! We are still 100% behind our decks and if you cannot ride then please do not buy them. If you CAN ride and want the lightest and best balanced deck for the cheapest possible price then please buy them. If you are scared to brake stuff then this is not for you to buy but then buy a tank.

    Marcel

  27. Don't try and put any of this blame on me.

    I'm done commenting here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok so just to get a straight answer, IS THE DISCOUNT BECAUSE THE DECKS WERE POORLY MADE AND AREN'T THE QUALITY THEY SHOULD BE? OR JUST BECAUSE OF THE LOOKS. THANK YOU TO WHOEVER ANSWERS

    ReplyDelete
  29. Typing in caps doesn't make it any easier to read..

Please read the article for your answer. No one including Myself, Marcel, and Dave have seen/held/rode/ the finished product that is now here in the US..so we can't tell you about their strength and quality. What we HAVE seen is that some of the printing on the decks was slightly off. That is why Marcel is issuing the discount to our Distributors and Dealers.
