RIP Jake Carney.

Making a post like this is something I'm pretty sure I've never done before, and hope to never have to make again. Last night, Chicago rider Jake Carney was in a car accident and suffered serious injuries. He was placed on life support this morning, but sadly passed away, at the age of 17. Jake leaves a brother, Ben, and countless friends and family members. I only met Jake once, but those who rode with him said he was a "great guy" and that he "lived life to the fullest."

As a tribute to Jake, I'd like to hear any stories or memories of Jake anyone has of him in the comments. So if you knew him, feel free to post a comment about him, thanks.

Heres a couple short videos of Jake, for those who never saw him ride there are videos below

*Edit* below piece added by Steven Tongson

When I logged on and read this, my heart dropped. Because I knew Jake personally? No. Did I even know him as a rider? Sadly, the answer remains no. But I don't think I have to have known him, or anyone else in this sport to know that this is one of the saddest moments I've had to come across in the sport of Scootering.

A lot of riders lose sight sometimes of what we're all doing, and how we are all together in this sport. We are pushing this sport to what it is as a collective effort that we all do our part in. We should respect and appreciate every rider for getting out on their scooters everyday and riding. And now we need to respect and acknowledge that we just lost one of those riders.

To Jake, and his friends, and his family, I will have you all in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that you all make it through this tough time.

  4. I came on the computer to go on scooterchat and hope to see you to tell you about this but I guess some one already beat me to it. Anyway, I met him on SR, we messaged and texted and stuff then he drove me to a skate park about an hour away when he barely knew me, we rode like all day and even though I couldn't ride he told me that I was a good rider. He was a really great guy and I'd do anything to ride with him again. - Mark Macwan

  10. Jake was so fun to ride with because you just learned new things every time. I remember our trip up to Northbrook for the first time, it was the summer of 2009. Jake, his brother Ben and me met up with Tommy Daddono and a Few others, it was really fun riding with him anytime. I will miss him dearly.

  15. Jake was an amazing person and was always being positive. He was always hilarious with out even trying and he lived life unlike anyone i've ever met. I have never heard one negative thing about Jake and he was an inspiration in scootering to so many. He is the one who started off scootering in Winfield and he will always be remembered

  16. RIP Jake,

I will always love you buddy. You got me to start riding a scooter. I remember the first time I met you and ben at 4 seasons, you were such an inspiration to me, one of the main reasons I ever wanted to progress. Aside from scooters, you were always a great friend and a fun person to be around. I always loved coming to your guys's house to sleep over and make stupid prank phone calls on skype.. fake booking hotels, we laughed so hard from such stupid stuff. I will always remember and love you man.

To Ben and his family: Stay strong, you guys are such great people and I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but everything will get better, it just takes time. You are all in my prayers.

    RIP Jake Carney,

    Your Friend,

    Tommy Daddono, Tdadd

  17. I wasnt super close to Jake. I rode with him prob less than a dozen times, but it was always fun and chill being around him. I couldnt imagine anyone saying anything bad about him. I was at northbrook the day that mark, ryan, tom, and everyone else was there and he gave me a ride home when i got a flat tire. The last time i saw him was the 1st day of transit 2. Like so many others Jake inspired me and will not b forgotten. This just showed you how short and fragile life is. RIP Jake Carney.

  18. I'm not sure if I ever met Jake before. I may have at a previous contest or maybe just riding around at a different park and just didn't ask his name. I am changing that as of now. Reading this article brings tears to my eyes even though I never met him. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through. Especially if he wasn't meant to pass. If any one of his friends reads this, please tell his family that they will all remain in my prayers. Rest in Peace Jake. You will be remembered. <3

  20. Jake was a good kid, both him and his brother are loads of fun to be around, rode with him a few times back when i still rode... this one time me him, AJ. TDADD, and a few other dudes went riding all over the place and were finding all of these rad spots. He was damn good too, throwing big stuff over this sketch box... it was a good time and stuff, he was a nice kid, hate to see something like this happen.
My regards go out to the Carney family, RIP Jake, you'll be missed.

  30. This man right here is the one who got so many people by us riding. I would always get so excited when I would find out he was riding with us. Everyone always looked up to him and he was always smiling. I grew up with his brother ben, It's just so hard to except the fact that he is gone. I will miss seeing him around school and riding with him. Rest in peace Jake.
