Two for One Deal

Two videos, and one amazing rider. Blake Pickup of Australia recently released his 2nd Mini Video...Upon watching it, I was pretty shocked. He is a really unique and creative rider, and it is really refreshing to see a video like this from an Aussie rider. So check out his first and his latest mini videos below. Hope to see a lot more of Blake in the future.

How's MaddGear Feel About Coming to California??

Everyone attending the SD4 Competition is well aware of what is flying over soon. The entire Team of MaddGear. Whether you, or they realize it, I can say without a doubt that these guys are some of the best riders not just in Australia, but in the world. For them to all be on one Team is pure insanity. So let's find out how these guys feel about the trip they will soon all be making, and the competition they will all compete in.

Inside-Scooters: How do you feel about having the opportunity to come to another country to ride scooters?

COEDIE DONOVAN: Well ive always wanted to go overseas to ride with all the siqq riders around the world and now is my chance the dream I wanted is coming true.

LUKE PICKETT: Great and really really lucky

JAXON ADRAWARTHA: I feel really privileged to get this opportunity, and thank Madd Gear for giving it to me. At the same time I’m really nervous about the comp. :b hope all goes well

ADAM (LADAM) BOLTON: I think it’s great how the sport is expanding, and just to go for the experience to ride with the americans should be fun. And also the sightseeing stuff should be good.

NICK HODGSKIN: The opportunity to shoot and ride in another country is amazing. I never thought I would get this far. It has been a long trip to get to this point, but worth it. I can’t wait to ride with all the socal riders and can’t wait for many more trips like this that will come.

RYAN WILLIAMS: I’m absolutely overwhelmed with happiness and can’t wait to meet and ride with all the riders over in America.

BILLIE RAINBOW: It’s just incredible like you wouldnt believe. me and my mates started to ride for a more fun version of transport and it got me here? just all crazy stuff.

Inside-Scooters: What are you most excited about with this trip?

COEDIE DONOVAN: Meeting the riders having a good time while im overseas.

LUKE PICKETT: Riding American skate parks and meeting new people.

JAXON ADRAWARTHA: The experience and meeting new people but most would be the adventure of showing the local Californians what Australia can bring to the table.

ADAM (LADAM) BOLTON: Just to ride with everyone over there, I just love to see how they ride and to show them what us Australians have got.

NICK HODGSKIN: The whole thing basically. The opportunity to ride and film parks like Woodward is just rad haha. Can’t wait t meet everyone, and have a sesh at the park. My 16^thnd day we are there, so that should be good too. I have been talking to Nick Darger, Tyler Wheeland, Conrad and Steve Tongson for quite a while now, so I can’t wait to meet those guys <3 birthday will be the 2

RYAN WILLIAMS: I’m so excited about riding all the amazing skate parks in America but mostly im excited about meeting all the riders in California and all around America.

BILLIE RAINBOW: riding new places is one of them and riding with new people is so much fun.

Inside-Scooters: Is there anyone in particular that you are hoping to meet and ride with?

COEDIE DONOVAN: Not really just wanna meet whoever wants to meet me.

LUKE PICKETT: All the MGP riders and hope to meet riders up in California.

Inside-Scooters: Are you nervous about the competition at all?

COEDIE DONOVAN: Not really because im not in it for the win im in it for the love of the sport and to just have fun.

LUKE PICKETT: Yes im nervous a little, because im scared that im going to go all the way over to california for a comp, and I wont land tricks or not do well but so so excited

JAXON ADRAWARTHA: Yea, I get really scared during comps, butterfly I guess. But hopefully I’ll be chilled and just ride for the fun and show the yanks what I got.

ADAM (LADAM) BOLTON: Not at the moment, but when it gets to it I might be.

NICK HODGSKIN: Yeah I’m fairly nervous about filming at the competition, once I meet everyone ill be chill though. Everybody will know what Billie, Coedie, Ladam etc look like so ill be some kid chilln at the back. But hopefully I get to meet everyone and have a rad time

RYAN WILLIAMS: Barely…I wont have enough time to be nervous I’ll be having too much fun

BILLIE RAINBOW: just as much as everyone is really, but i don’t really care for competing as much as i do just hanging with new people and having as much fun as possible at the same time.

Keep a lookout for: Jordie Robinson

Came upon this video, and although I'm a bit late seeing as it was released last month. I am stunned at how much I liked this video. This kid manages to "flow" while riding street...something very few riders can pull off. He has a really smooth and clean style, and is really creative. I see Jordie becoming a really dialed all around rider in the near future. Check out the video.

JON REYES INTERVIEW

Within the past few of years one rider went from being someone you would only hear about, to someone you can literally watch ride for hours, and still not get bored. My earliest memories of Jon Reyes, was hearing about him by word of mouth from other east coast riders. A video or two would pop up every now and then that would feature Jon, and it was evident that he was clearly underrated. Jon was born and has lived his entire life in New York City. Now before Jon rode scooters, he rode rollerblades. Eventually he saw one of his friends jump an 8 set on a scooter, and he thought it was actually pretty cool. A little while later he got his own scooter and started to mess around a little bit, it didn’t take long before Jon was hooked. When Jon first started to ride scooters, he instantly realized he loved doing manuals, and manual combos, and it’s still evident in his riding today. His inspiration starting out in the sport came from the old school Razor Team, and also a big part from the old NBS Crew and their videos.

Jon is technically on another level when it comes to tech riding, and being creative. Some of the stuff you’ll see Jon do in videos, you literally need to rewind it, and watch it a few more times. However, although he is one of the sports leading tech riders, that’s not to say he can’t ride park. It might get overshadowed by his tech and street riding, but Jon can in fact front flip, front flip whip, back flip, and flip whip. But when asked what or where his favorite places to ride are he still goes back to his roots, and insists that manual pads, preferably the colored manual pads you might have seen in some of his videos are his favorite place to ride. He can put together an endless amount of trick combinations while riding there. One of the best things about Jon’s riding, is that he isn’t following anyone else’s path. He might have looked up to riders starting out. But he is now the one paving the way for all aspiring street riders who want a tech style. Something we need a lot more of in the sport.

When I asked Jon who he enjoys riding with it came down to ScooYork and the Proto Team. When Jon was asked to join the Proto Team, he described it as “A dream come true”. He represents Proto to the fullest now, and fits right in with the diverse group of riders on the current Team. Right now Jon’s future plans are to finish filming for an all street, full of bangers video for Proto. I think what I noticed the most about Jon’s riding, that a lot of people should take note of. Is that he is a tech rider, but he doesn’t stop there. He expands his riding to all obstacles, and no matter where you stick Jon, a park, the streets, or in a basketball court…he is going to ride, and he is going to ride it how he sees it, and how he wants to. We need that in this sport, riders who got their individual styles, and take that style to wherever or whatever they are riding. There’s no telling what’s going to be in Jon’s next video. But I think one thing is for sure it will once again prove that Jon, when it comes to tech riding, is always going to be one step ahead of the game.

Jordan Jasa:  How old were you when you first started riding?  Do you remember anything about the scene back then?

Jon Reyes:  I was 13, it was the summer of 2002. Back then there was no scene, it was me messing around on my scooter with my skateboard friends.

For me I didn’t really know who you were until your Micro Sponsor Video.  To me it seemed like that was the video that made you a big name.  Do you think that made a lot of people notice you?

That I have no idea. The scooter community will answer that for you.

What was it like for you to get that video out?

It was quick easy and fun. It took 1 summer of stress free riding and having fun.

Who are some riders who inspire you?  Who inspires you the most?

Mostly dan Barrett and Matt pate. As of right now I've been looking at 2 skaters ( Daewon song and Joey brezinski). I'm hooked on their riding style and manual tech combos and i wanted to see if I can bring something like that into our sport. My ideas in riding come from them.

One of the things you’re most famous for are your nose manuals and hang fives..  How long have you been doing them?  How hard was it to learn them for you?

Haha I Was forced to learn hang fives, one summer I broke my ankle on a 7 rail and could only ride with one foot so I gave hang fives a try. And trust me it was soooo frustrating.

What’s a normal day of riding for you like?  Where do you go, who do you ride with, etc.

Most videos put out today are mostly park…How do you feel about that?

Negative

Do you think the sport is going in the right direction?  What, if anything, is wrong with the sport today?

Yes but there are too many trendy styles

When I came back from sd3 Andrew had called me asking me if I "want in" and my response was "he'll yes"

What has been your favorite part of being on the team?

Being able to ride without the worry of breaking parts and being on the same team with some of my best friends.

What is something you’re looking forward to?

The future of the sport

Congrats Josh Toy

Josh Toy, one of the oldest OG's of our sport, recently got married. Josh and April were wed on December 5th. Josh has been on Razor for pretty much forever, and has had a number of other sponsors as well. And now he can add getting married to his list of accomplishments, haha. Congrats to the happy couple!

Nick Donatelli Super 60

"The Super 60 is designed to test a rider's consistency, creativity and use of a space within a skatepark. Riders are given 60 minutes to film as many clips as they can, and turn this into a video showcasing their personal style and tricks."

This week's Super 60 is a very special one by Nick Donatelli. Instead of riding a park, Nick chose to ride some street for his S60. I think it turned out great, really good stuff in there.

Jordan Jasa: Why did you choose to do your Super 60 in street instead of at a park?

Nick Donatelli: Just cause i ride street better than i do at park and i wanted mine to stand out more than everyone elses

What is your favorite obstacle to do at that high school?

my favorite obstacle of the high school is the 10stair.

What kinds of tricks do you normally like to do at the spots in your S60?

that would have to be decades and 360whips by far.



It looks like you can do some tech stuff but you also can go big. Do you prefer one over the other?

Oh man thats a hard one, umm i cant really choose i love them both.



What about riding street do you like best?

Just the feelin of being able to ride unqiue spots.

A Sneak Peek at The New District Pegs

District recently released some new pictures and details about another one of their soon to be released products. The pegs. These pegs come in Steel and in Aluminum, they are made to be compatible with all forks, but are made especially for the future CNC Aluminum District Fork that you can also see in the pictures below. Both the Aluminum and Steel pegs come in their own package, with the steel axles coming with the steel pegs, and aluminum axles with the aluminum pegs. The aluminum axles also come anodized in the color of your peg, but aren't the strongest axles to be run with the pegs. Inside each individual Peg package is also a free District sticker. The colors for the Aluminum Pegs are, Blue, Red, Gold, Black, and Silver. And the Steel pegs come in Steel black. Check out the pictures below.

How's Coedie Feel About Coming to So Cal?

So as you all know Coedie Donovan and the MaddGear Team are coming to Southern California for the SD4 Competition. I recently caught up with the one and only Coedie Donovan to see how he's feeling about the trip and the competition. Here's what he had to say.



Coedie, Coedie, Coedie...what you been up to lately?

Coedie: Chilln eating some greasy kfc. I've riding heaps lately, trying to get more hammers down for california later this month, filming a bit with nickeh for a new 2 day edit, and getting some photos/interviews for local newspapers.


Haha very nice. So under a month before you make it out to the US for the SD Comp, how you feeling about it?

Coedie: Soo keen to go overseas to ride with all the socal riders. Hopefully meet some babes nah, should be a good experience to ride with everyone and party hard for new years.


Yea, I think everyone is pretty excited to meet you and everyone from Aus coming along. Now, everyone seems to think you are going to take 1st place, what do you think about that?

Coedie: 1st place would be pretty rad, but Im more in for the fun and riding with everyone. I got some pretty tuff competition with people like bonner, so it should be good. I prefer a demo, I pull harder shit in demos.


How are you looking at this competition? How serious is this whole trip out here for you?

Coedie: Not really to worried about the competition, just really want to ride with all the overseas guys and have a lot of fun.


Is there anything in particular that you are looking forward to most about the whole trip?

Coedie: Pretty much what i have already said, new years party will be so rad and shopping.


Any last words you wanna say for everyone who reads Inside-Scooters?

Timur Mamatov - Throwaway.

It has been a while since the last Timur footage.
For those who don't know or haven't seen Timur before, he's a Russian Street rider, who is usually very highly regarded when he drops a video, then goes un-noticed until his next video. Reinforcing what Steven said in an earlier article, riders need to remember everyone in the sport, not just the ones always popping up in the online scene.

Timur is the only person in the world that i know of that can perform the trick at 2.00 so dialled, and clean.

Top 5 Videos Of November

Looking over the videos from November, one thing was apparent: nearly every video was from Australia. That left only one spot in this month’s Top 5 that wasn’t occupied by an Australian. Perhaps as temperatures are cooling down in the US, people aren’t riding as much, and therefore aren’t making videos as much. Or maybe there’s just something in the water in Australia that makes them so good. Hmm. Another thing that caught my eye was the amount of videos from Australian team/company Maddgear, which claims three of the spots this month. With the release of the Madd Gear Pro, and soon the Nitro, Madd seems to be fast becoming one of the top companies in the sport.

#5. Aaron Bransdon DSA Edit

Starting off the list is Dominator rider Aaron Bransdon. Aaron’s riding is so much different than most other Aussies, especially the others featured in this Top 5. Most riders from down under excel in the park, whereas Aaron shines in the streets. A combination of wallrides, manuals, fakies, opposite, and overall clean and creative lines gets this video the number 5 spot.

#4. Twan November Edit

Anthony “Twan” Bustos’ video from November barely beat out Aaron’s DSA edit. I have to admit that his street lines are a bit boring, most consisting of him doing some basic tricks over flat/small obstacles, leading up to a handrail, or some gap. However, he does these lines like he does his park riding- with a lot of speed and flow. Twan’s park riding is definitely fun to watch. Combine that with Twan’s goofball personality (“You gotta pull back” “Oh really? Thanks Bill Nye.”) and you’ve got yourself one good video.

#3. Adam “Ladam” Bolton MGP Edit

Adam basically burst onto the scene this year, with an edit earlier in the summer that caught everyone by surprise. His fast, high flying and technical park lines soon earned him a spot on the Maddgear Team. I’m not the biggest fan of “style” riding, but I gotta say he has really nice turndowns and tucks- look for yourself at that screenshot, his arms seem to bend back further than most human’s, haha.

#2. Ryan Williams MGP Nitro Edit

I can’t remember when exactly Ryan first came onto the scene, but I do know from his first videos that it was clear he would be one of the best park riders out there. Ryan is one of the first riders to do true BMX style flatspin 360s. He also seems to have 720 and frontflip combos dialed. Now if that doesn’t warrant a spot on the Top 5 Videos of November, I don’t know what does.

#1. Team Maddgear Promo

Choosing the number 1 spot was definitely the easiest for me. This month seemed to be Madd’s month. This was an edit that featured all of the team’s riders except for Coedie Donovan (Ryan Williams, Billie Rainbow, Jaxon Andrawartha, Adam Bolton, and Luke Pickett) that was sent to some TV networks. This video completely blew me away, with bangers like 360 briflip triple whip, frontflip tobaggan, 720 bar bar, 360 backflip, and fakie frontflip. Like Aaron said on the original post on IS, Ryan has to be one of the best riders in the world at the moment. Too good.

I also wanted to give an honorable mention to a video that is currently only on DVD, the 951 video. Over 30 minutes long, this video features full sections from Nick Darger, Robert “Monky” McMoran, Nick Donatelli, and a split section from Kody McQueen and Jarrod Bruns. This is one of the first legit DVD’s since Transit Scooter Tour, and I gotta give credit to Nick and the rest of those guys for putting it together. You can buy the 951 DVD from Sky High.

An Inside-Look: with Lucky Scooter Parts

Jordan Jasa:Tell me about the park. What makes it different, better, worse, etc., than other parks?

Monky McMoran: Well as u can see theres not that much to do. That's why I like it because u have to be creative to like it or think of your own stuff. So this is one park I just like to have a sesh with only a couple of people. Well the only thing bad was that the ramps wern't complete so i had to be careful for the cracks in the ramps.

What is your favorite part/obstacle of the park?

I would have to say the box.

What would a normal session at the park be like for you?

Um i really don't i know yet beacuse i haven't actually rode it that long since Scooter Zone just lets certain people ride it for right now.

So that big 3 to fakie you bailed on...got any plans of landing it soon?

Hopefully bigger. It'm just scared of hitting my head.

The future of the sport?

As the older riders continue to get older, it is up to the younger generation to keep the sport alive and progressing....well I think when it comes to Australia, they got that covered pretty well...with three riders that quickly come to mind. Luke Addison Hicks, Lachy Beeton, and Jackson Bartlett. Luke....is 10 years old....yes I said 10. And Lachy is 11 and Jackson is 12....just watch the videos.

Ages...10, 11, and 12...and these videos just shut down a lot of riders who have been riding for years and years. These kids have what it takes to easily become some of the sports top riders in only a year or two. It will be interesting to see where they all three are at in a few years.
