This was something Lucky has been hyping for a while. The video was filmed by DevinSuperTramp, and for those who don't know, he's a highly regarded filmer, and has over 780k subscribers on Youtube, with over 149 million total video views...and now this edit is also on his channel. Pretty sick if you ask me. Clearly it features almost all LSP riders, with the exception of Envy's Jake Clark and Vincent Kudrna. Was sick to see Mike Montgomery and Lil Jon clips, but it's clear to see that Dakota has center stage. Definitely check this out.

great opening scene. loved this whole thing. wish it were 10 min longer.
ReplyDeleteLucky will be releasing unseen footage that will be about 20 minutes long in total. It'll be announced on their page soon. (Alex)
DeleteEl Toro!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually really good news. Devin Super Tramp reaches a huge audience outside of the scooter scene so this means lots of great exposure for scoot in general. i also found links to it on Monster, RedBull and ESPN, so it's going viral.

I find it a bit of a shame that this video is going to represent scootering to a lot of people not involved in the scene, mostly because it's a cheap shot to call it "World's Best" when anyone in the scene knows that that's completely false. I've always been one to back up Dakota in the comp scene but after seeing video of his tricks in slow mo (for some tricks), you really get a good look at how he does some of his tricks and why his style is kind of looked down upon. It's easy to do no-handers to turndowns when you barely take your hands off the bars and kinda tweak the scooter into a turndown-ish fashion. Sometime's he fully extends his arms for no-handers, but he's not consistent with it at all (for a video part; not to say he couldn't do 30 perfect no-handers in a row if he focused). Dakota may be able to do some of the greatest tricks, but he's cheating on many lot of them in this video. Nobody notices most of the time because he does a bunch of combos, and does them really fast. AND let's not forget that 20% of those tricks are fly-outs, which looks REALLY REALLY bad to anyone who takes videos seriously. NO RESPECTABLE PRO WOULD EVER DO A FLY OUT IN A VIDEO NOWADAYS. I don't want to hate on Dakota. I want the kid to be the best that everyone THINKS he is. He's not 100% ready to be pro yet (he's at 85% in my mind), and you can see that in his style. John's 360 was insane, but it should have been last. It was also too good a trick for this video given the history of that spot and the history of scooter riders trying to hit it. Good filming though. Editing was decent, but a few stupid ideas in terms of cuts and transitions. Not enough to really matter, more of a style thing.

You should quit embarrassing yourself. Everyone knows that trolls like you like to talk smack because they can't ride. DevinSupertramp's 150,000,000 youtube views speaks for itself. He picks the companies and riders he wants to work with and he chose some of the best. To question Devin's editing skills is laughable. Get a life man...quit talking and start doing!
DeleteYa Connor thanks for the essay! Man I know who Kota is, but who the hell are you. Never heard of you before. You must be some kind of irrelevant troll. I looked up Kota's youtube hits= over 15 million. So like the other guy said, your just embarrassing yourself for being so stupid.
DeleteIf its the Connor I know, then its okay for him to say that, considering he is an OG and has known Kota for a while. He is right. The video was great and had a lot of amazing things. But more variety of scootering could have been represented.
DeleteBut IMO its a great start.
What the fuck's going on. Anonymouses, stop being stupid sheep. Connor, you're correct, Kota's not ready and anybody familiar with action sports will realize that. This video doesn't reach out to that audience, it reaches out to people who may not have ever done a sport in their life, meaning that if they join the sport, they'll be like the clueless scooterkids that are the ban of every park. We don't want to focus on the quantity of riders we have in the sport, but the quality. We can't be seen as a serious action sport if in our most publicized video we have someone who can't extend their tricks properly and rides flyout. It's getting positive attention for the sport, but in the wrong place and with the wrong material.
DeleteIt's great the sport is being recognised, but it's being seen in the bad way. Did not like this at all.

ReplyDeletewell it doesn't seem like kota is making the sport out to look like it's childish like i've heard many people claim. Even a bmx website said it was sick, so thats gotta be some sort of progress.
For the first anonymous that replied to Connor; having 150000000 youtube views it doesn't mean he's the best editor in the world. He is not one of the best cameras/editors out there, he just had luck, and reached that number. I mean, seriously, talk to someone who's into real filming, cinema, or editing/processing and they'll tell you the same I'm telling to you; Devin Graham is just another mid-level filmer with the flycam hype, which it's starting to look pretty lame.
ReplyDelete-Pol.
Pretty much. One of my favourite filmers in BMX, Joe Simon, has less than 10k subs.
DeleteThe video's decent but the glidecam makes me feel motion sick hahah.
Also, am I the only person who doesn't give a shit about promoting the sport to the masses? I don't want it in the X games or on 150 million peoples youtube or anything.
uhhh, devin has just had luck? really? is that why he just got sponsored by red bull media? oh, are they hacks, too? pull your head out. in a few years you'll grow some pubes and you'll need to be more intelligent to survive.
ReplyDelete"pull your head out. in a few years you'll grow some pubes and you'll need to be more intelligent to survive."
DeleteI'm actually sick of people like you. Why do you have to be such a fucking arse about it? Pol made a reasonable and justified comment.
https://vimeo.com/31260570 <- Just so you know the difference, there's a nicely filmed video. Notice that you can see what's going and and you don't feel sick watching it.

DeleteYou people are so stupid. Don't you get it yet? Your insignificant. Kota is the sport right now, he has the following, the viewers and all the opportunity. The sport will go where Kota goes, whether you like it or not. I think he doesn't even care what you think, he's just doing his thing.
ReplyDeleteStop it, you're making me hate scooters!
DeleteBut yeah, that comment was so wrong I'm not sure where to begin.
Who are you anyway? What makes your view correct and everyone else stupid?
and even more lel
Delete^^ Right there. While you are all here talking bullshit about what you don't like about Kota or Lucky, he is out riding getting even better than he already is.
ReplyDeleteLol I'm guessing the anons posting shit about people being insignificant are like, dakota's parents or something. if you're gonna leave a comment, leave your name too you fucks. I'll give this video props just because the riding is good for the most part and Jon did a front 3 down a fucking 20 stair. the filming and editing were just really bad.
ReplyDeleteI explained, somewhat clearly and admittedly opinionated, my issues with Dakota's style. You can't make any logical argument using the number of YouTube views. The kid who shoved a remote up his ass has millions of views. Cats have more views than Dakota. Dakota is an AMAZING rider, he's just not "there" yet in terms of being pro (whatever that means). My tiny tiny tiny tiny issue with the video release is more or less the filmer/editor using his established cred to say that this is riding at its best. I understand that some of you honestly feel that it is the best, and that's cool for you. Either way, the guy who made it is obviously free to do and say what he wants. And he deserves to say and do what he wants. Doesn't mean I'm down with it. We'll all say/write anything to get more views on our videos. I never said he was a terrible filmer/editor either. He's really good at that particular style of shooting and equipment, but obviously an intermediate when it comes to editing particular action sports. Who cares though? It doesn't matter. Time will make him better, just like the rest of us. I wish him the best and congratulate him for his honest efforts in helping out Lucky and the sport.
ReplyDeleteI'm not here to take followers away from Dakota or even really to talk about Dakota. His commitment and devotion to what he loves deserves the utmost respect and/or monetary rewards. I hate when people mention his name all the time just to hate. Unfortunately, he's just too easy to use as an example and I sincerely feel bad for him. I'm sure he doesn't care though. After all, he's got 15 million YouTube views to keep him content.
-Connor D.
Devin, put in alot of work for this scooter vid give him some fuckin props for god sakes and he doesnt even film scooters so stop complaining about how the filming was bad did you guys even see the behind the scenes like fuck.
ReplyDelete^^^You obviously didn't have enough time to give PROPS either. You just complained, like me. Also, a professional television producer would never hire a cameraman who "doesn't film" the subject they're about to be hired to film or shoot or tape or whatever you wanna call it. PROPS are given when PROPS are due, you shouldn't saturate the term. The video deserves CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, not hate-filled speech.
ReplyDeleteConnor and Graham are the only people in here actually using their brains, and everyone else is getting angry on their keyboard. I agree with those two on pretty much all their points. Nice work Jonny boy.
ReplyDeleteIm bummed that when jon landed the 360 all he got was a high five from jake clark. I was expecting all his homies to be jumping all around and like throwing him up in the air. But nope he went there with a bunch of queers instead of his friends.
ReplyDeleteFuck yeah Jon and Mike!
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, this video made me really really upset about scooters. I'm so disappointed that this is the video the world is watching and basing our whole sport off of.
Travis, guys like you really don't have to worry much about the direction of scootering. Its going in a different direction then what you want and thats a good thing. You guys will end up just being background noise.
