Breaking News: Scooters In 2012 X-Games? ***UPDATE***
As you probably have seen by now, there is a plethora of buzz on the social networking sites over rumors of scooters getting into the X-Games. From what I can tell Scooter Hut is the first to break the news, without many (or any) details at all. I've yet to see any real details or even confirmation from X organizers. I do know that the ISA (governing body consisting of many of the sports companies) have been pushing to get scooters involved in the games.
But rest assured, if I hear anything new, I'll post it up here on Inside Scooters.
***UPDATE***
"Dear All, My name is Scott and I am the owner of Scooter Hut. We allow some of our staff to work as administrators on our Facebook page, which normally works well for us as a means to keep in touch with our customers and friends. Today, one of my staff overheard a private conversation regarding the involvement of scooters in the xGames and wrongly decided to make an announcement on our Facebook Page in relation to this before running it by me. There is no doubt scooters will be in the xGames at some point, but we have no "official" announcement as to when this will be, so I am sorry if we have given false hope of a 2012 inclusion. On a more positive note, I can confirm we have been in talks with Nitro Circus this week and as a result of these discussions, we will have at least two scooter riders performing in every show of this year's Nitro Circus Tour of Australia. One giant leap at a time for this beautiful sport :)"
What I can say is this. I am glad that Scott announced that. Also let me say that if there is any negotiations about Scootering in the XGames, I hope that Scott is the one doing the negotiating. I know him really well, and he knows what is good for the sport. Surely you guys remember Nitro Circus last year, which he is obviously doing again this year.
So yeah calm down people haha. False Alarm!

WE ARE NOT READY! The sport is to young and doesn't attract enough positive attention. We have to many haters right now. We won't bring in the right amount of people and most likely will get kicked out like rollerblading and the other unpopular sports. We need at-least 2-3 years to expand. This way we will draw a bigger crowd and not just 12 year olds. This of course is only my opinion.
ReplyDelete- Collin DaSilva
Do I count I'm 11
Delete-Brent ikedah
It will tho once people see it on TV. The tricks that those guys pull are insane and make for a crazier spectacle than many of the skateboard events. I have confidence that it will go over well.
Deleteonce people can see what we can really do they will think of it as a sport and not something 12 yrs olds do. u sound like a hater. dont post stuff about us not expanding cuz u think we havent expanded enouhg. thats the whole point of expanding.
Deleteshould have started out with dew tour instead of jumping straight into a big competition like that. we need room to get more popular and expand.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, we all need to pull together and work are way up!! We can't just go chanting wooo x games is for scooters dude!! ;) we have to start at lower competitions like the dew tour!!! :)
DeleteI will be boycotting this premature decision. This idea that is a false illusion of the "progress of this sport" will certainly destroy it just as quickly as it was built. The pro's of today do not know how to conduct the ideals of this sport or themselves to the media. It will go in the same route as inline skating did. The market will seize to be due to huge corporations knocking off our rider owned companies products, pushing them around with money, then flooding the market with those products. I do not agree with this decision the ISA has made. Their head is in the right place, but I believe they need to let this sport mature before pushing kids, whom are our pro's for the mostpart, into such a limelight.
ReplyDeleteThis can only go bad.
ReplyDeletethis can either go two ways,
ReplyDeletethe first way is what josh said, it will spiral out of control until the market sizes and scootering becomes a small majority of people again will only the true riders left participating,
and the second way is that it could go amazingly well, with the right riders entering, a mix of street park and tec riders, the worl may take a step back and say ok some scooter riders absolutly shred and need to be taken seriously.
The majority of people know that some scooter riders are actually pretty good, but the majority of scooter riders are like 11 year old kids, not looking where they go and snaking other park users which is why it gets so much hate..
Deleteim 11 and im sponsord by low scooters
DeleteI think it's so funny how American riders are like all pessimistic and all the Aussie riders are super stoked!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so funny how American riders are like all pessimistic and all the Aussie riders are super stoked
ReplyDeleteim american and i was super stoked but now everyone is talkin like we r not ready. i think we are.
DeleteSCOOT
oh.no. this is going to be bad.
ReplyDeletei agree , but if we do our riders would need more expeirience , like if its a massive box jump to a 5offt vert then no way , scooters this that 15 foot is crazy
ReplyDelete:/
so get crazy, dont hate, believe in our riders.
DeleteNoo this will ruin our sport!
ReplyDeleteI AGREE COMPLETELY
DeleteNot only is this a premature decision, but it will be swayed in favor of the Ozzies, because it will most likely be a park contest and the crowd will want to see triple inward double flairs.
ReplyDeleteobviously im really excited, but we're gonna get so much hate it will be unreal....
ReplyDeleteI'm with Josh on this one. Bad idea at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe riders will go high in the air, and the deck will snap. It won't be good in the x-games because of haters, the scooter manufacturing and stuff
ReplyDeletewe are going to get hated so bad.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with josh on this one it will flood the markets crashing rider owned company's like Tilt, Rad, Proto, sky high and many others destroying the original parts and true parts of our sport and possibly causing us to end up like inline skating and our sport falls a part. It will be good for maybe a year or two with the sport booming and possibly taking over for that time but we still aren't ready yet. The pros of all the other sports will be trashing us the whole time making more people not want to ride which could possibly ruin our sport right off the bat
ReplyDeleteNo thanks. Sorry but I don't want a bunch of kooks like Dakota representing my past time
ReplyDeletescooter hut recently released info saying that IT IS NOT TRUE!!! it was all a misunderstanding and misinformation. im pretty relieved.
ReplyDeletethis could be really bad for the sport, i dont know about you guys but i sure dont wanna see people doing all flyouts and huckin to flat , i want to see the true OG's showing what scootering is really all about, im sure bmxers and skaters in the xgames will want to see some style not just buttercups and bris, if we can get riders from proto and addcit in the xgames it wont ruin our image , scooterin already has a bad enough rep
ReplyDeleteThank god this isn't real..
ReplyDeleteI really think this sport has potential, but it really isn't the right time for us to be recieved into the public limelight. We have enough hate as it is, and as cool as it would be to see scootering being accepted into one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, the risk of a massive failure wouldn't be worth it.
I don't get why people are comparing this to rollerblading...
ReplyDeleteThe sport of rollerblading didn't die after it left the X-Games(they didn't get kicked out, the representative for rollerblading on the X-Games committee told the producers of the Games that rollerbladers didn't want to be in the X-Games), it is still very much alive. I don't support scooters in the X-Games because I just don't think people will watch. There will be lots of disappointed riders when nobody shows up to the scooter part of the X-Games because in my opinion, people haven't had enough exposure to the sport to make them want to go see it at the X-Games. We need to start getting the word out about scootering, and then after it's well-known and accepted, we'll be ready for the X-Games. Just my two cents.

This just shows how irrelevant IS is to the scooter world, reporting BS that's not true. Most of these comments are so stupid and make zero sense. Scooter something to be proud of. NOT no wonder everyone thinks school kids are stupid. Just look how you are
ReplyDeleteYou should probably actually read what is written. Nowhere does we say it was official, merely stated that a rumor had been started about it. If it WAS true that would pretty huge news. Clearly you do believe IS is relevant, since you are here.
Deletelmfao what the hell are you even talking about?
DeleteHahahaha what a fucking gorm.
ReplyDelete2012, no. Obviously it will not be soon and that is best anyway. It will all grow from small comps to
ReplyDeleteNitro circus to idk dew tour and x games? It doesnt matter because frankly we need to decide as a whole who we are as a sport and which direction we want to go. This sport is still young compared to the developement other participating sports underwent So late time go by and we will be part of somethIng big I'm sure of it.
The xgames started when bmx and skating was in a bit of a rut! where as blading was in its early hay day! and i would like to just clear up that we DID want to be part of the xgames!
ReplyDeletethis is the story of the xgame and rollerblading.
part one (skip to 8.36 how the xgames came about)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTTDw-2y6Mw&feature=related
part two (this is the next part of the xgames you need to know about rollerblading getting kicked out)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9ZkkYl2K0I&feature=relmfu
you do not want the same thing to happen to your sport as it did to mine. the big companies do not care! just rider own and run!
yes they should definately do a pro tour like the dew tour first before going big like in the x games. but the whole scootering scene is based on atracting little kids, because the world has changed since the skatboarding and bmx hay day. its all about money now. but introducing scootering would be good for the x games at it would atract a younger and wider audience. i recon by the time scootering gets into the x games those 12 year old kids will all have quit and be working in mcdonlads
ReplyDeleteDan Barrett from Philadelphia who has been riding for 8yrs and fully sponsored would be proud and honored to step up!
ReplyDeleteFuck scootering its not a extreme sport its a plaything you buy when your 4
ReplyDeleteThis guy ^
DeleteScootering is just as good as any other sport.. Sure it's not big like skating but it will get there soon enough
DeleteNo, it won't. Scootering is ghey
DeleteSo, how do we feel about the Scooter Demo at XGames????
ReplyDeleteI once had a scooter. Then I turned 8
ReplyDeleteryan williams was the first to do a double flair. (180 backlip is a flair).
ReplyDeleteterry price was the first one to tuck no hand double backflip.
and i know plenty of people that for sure cant do that stuff. i think it should be in the x games for sure.
Just understand, no one wants scooters in the xgames. It's not...that exciting, though it is fun
ReplyDeleteworst.fucking.idea. scooters are gay as fuck. fuck off, leave the pushing to toddlers
ReplyDeleteSir, you need to calm down, why are you on this website if you think scootering is "gay". Also if you are going to comment learn your punctuation and capitalization if you are going to compare us to toddlers. Last, scooters are not living, and have no gender so they can't be a male homosexual. You sir have many errors in your small and uneducated comment.
DeleteScooters should be in the x games. It's an amazing and good sport. I don't think there would be any problems with putting it into the mega ramp or half pipe
ReplyDeleteI know there is a lot of tricks on scooter that skateboarders can't do like double flairs, silly willies, and all kinds of stuff scooter should definetly be put into x games
