Proto's follow-up to Armageddon 2012 recently dropped. A quick comparison between the full-lengths shows a few stark differences- namely, roster changes. A new wave of flow riders (plus Matt McKeen) have risen in the ranks, producing full parts to replace those who've moved on. Sometimes when teams gain/lose riders, it completely switches up the feel of the company and their videos. Not here. Proto feels like Proto; the rugged, honest, and OG scooter company we've all come to know and love throughout the years.

The riding in this video is spot on. Creativity, technicality, heaviness, and style abounds. From Kirk Svensson's opening section, attacking hubbas, nose manualing (front firecrackering?) down sets, to McKeen continuing to set the bar on what street scootering can be, and how good it can look, to Parrish Isaacs redefining what's even possible to do on a scooter, and finally, to Zack Martin showing how well rounded one can be, matching every monster gap or rail he hits with an equally impressive nose manual combo. For sure, everybody brought something new to the table.

One of the highlights for me was Brandon Kilbury's section. Turns out this is his last as a Proto rider, and he made it count. His front scooterflips have been iconic to me for 10 years now; seeing a manual front scooterflip again made it come full circle. Congrats to him for killing it while being a goddamn rocket scientist, he gives hope to graduated scooter riders everywhere.

It's hard to talk about full-lengths without bringing up the fact how nuts it is that people are still filming them. Each of these dudes are spending hundreds, even thousands of their own dollars to buy cameras, tapes, travel, etc, (not to mention opportunity cost of not being able to actually work) just for the purpose of getting clips. All without the expectation of getting reimbursed in any significant way. In other words, if you like this sort of content- real, meaningful, gnarly scootering- please support the people behind it. Companies are never making a profit off of feature videos- most will lose money, but they do it because it is a labor of love. As time goes on, it gets harder and harder to justify making videos like this. But remembering where your dollar goes when buying new scooter parts can help.

So is this the last Proto full-length video? The trilogy is finished now, after all. And trilogy remakes are never good (Damn you, Andrew Garfield). What's next? Will they finally turn Parrish pro? Will we see Jake ever make a vlog 7? I think it's safe to say that Proto will keep fighting the good fight, whatever that means in the year 2018 and beyond.

Throwback Thursday: Brandon Kilbury BLT2 Section

Brandon has been around for over 10 years in the sport, and has proven himself as one of the most dialed riders time and time again. Brandon grew up in Vermont, and is most likely responsible for a lot of the scene there now. Arguably one of his best sections to date, came from BLT2. The whole thing was just amazing. The tricks he was doing, and as always, he was making them look effortless. This one will go down in history in my book, as always being one of my favorite sections to watch. Check it out below.

Armageddon 2012 Raw: Brandon Kilbury

Raw, Edited, doesn't matter, any BK footy is good footy. This is Raw footage from 2012 showing a lot of the hard work BK went through to film his Armageddon section. I personally love Raw footage, there's something really enjoyable about watching something that hasn't been edited in any way. Check it out below. One of the most dialed riders out there for years now.

Andrew Broussard Armageddon B Sides

Andrew Broussard is one of the most well known riders in the industry today. He is the owner and creator of PROTO, and one of the first riders to ever hit the Mega Ramp, and be featured on Nitro Circus. He is respected by riders and industry leaders alike, and not just for the companies he owns. He also happens to be one hell of a rider. His Armageddon section was one of the gnarliest things I've seen in a while. And to see the amount of dedication Andrew put into that clip, well it's inspiring to say the least. A true one of a kind. Definitely take the time to watch this, and next time you see Andrew, give him the props he deserves.

Trip Through the Cosmos: Alex Steadman

Alex recently had two new signature parts from Proto release, an SCS, and a new wheel. Both of which look amazing. Alex is a true OG in the sport, and his riding is timeless. He has never conformed to the new age tricks that most riders are doing today. He stuck to the tricks he personally likes to do, and has simply built off of that. It's a pleasure to watch this guys do what he does. Check it out below, and hit up your local scooter store or online shop to get your hands on Alex's new sig parts!

Chema Cardenas Ouroboros Wheel Released

Chema has a new signature Proto Ouroboros wheel out, and one hell of an ad to go along with it.  If I'm not mistaken that's the rail right across the street from the Freestyle Depot shop...21 stairs, don't really need to explain how gnarly this is.  Expect an edit later this month.

Throwback Thursday: PROTO Team Rider: Dylan Kasson

Talk about a throwback.. Dylan joined Proto over 6 years ago, and this video came out around 2009. It was a hit when it dropped, and it really opened peoples eyes when it came to Dylan's riding. I'm sure Dylan doesn't like this video, but I know a lot of people, including myself, still do. Now a days Dylan rides for Tilt, after making the hard decision to leave his sponsor of over 6 years, Proto. I'm interested to see how riding for Tilt will affect Dylan's riding. They apparently have a lot of new products coming out in the near future.

PROTO at Woodward 2014

Alex Steadman, Chema Cardenas, and Zach Martin all tripped it up to Woodward last weekend and wow, they killed it.  Alex's creativity, Chema's peg abilities, and Zach's rail madness really make for an entertaining video.  Zach's whip nose manual was so solid looking...and that last trick was really somethin too.

New PROTO Team Rider - Zack Martin

Zack has been coming up so fast for the past couple of years. It eventually got to the point where you simply couldn't ignore Zack's skills in the streets. He might have started out with AO, but he eventually moved onto a TSI Thresh, and I think it helped his riding a lot. Apparently so did PROTO because he is now officially part of the Team. His welcome edit is everything you've come to expect from Zack. Gaps, rails, and full speed lines. Check it out.

Throwback Thursday: PROTO Team Rider Dylan Kasson

Having been in the sport as long as I have, I've had the privilege of seeing some riders who were just starting out, and are now some of the best in the world. Dylan is one of those riders, and his start was no easy one. He faced a lot of adversity over his opinions and thoughts on the sport and the riders in it, and in his early years his riding was nothing to marvel over. That all seemed to change really fast though. It almost felt like Dylan was feeding off the people bashing him, and just started progressing crazily. For me, it was this edit that came out around 4 years ago where I just couldn't ignore Dylan's skill anymore. I still enjoy watching this edit from time to time.

Proto Scooters- Armageddon 2012- Part 7: Dylan Kasson

Dkass had the ender part in Catalyst, and the question on everyone's mind was whether or not he would claim that spot again in Armageddon.  Turned out he had the 2nd to last part, with Chema, riding on the momentum he'd gained from being in the states, taking the banger section.  Anyway, Dylan's part is good so you should watch it.

Proto Scooters- Armageddon 2012: Jackson Manzie

Jackson was a new edition to the Proto team during the filming of Armageddon, getting on after his California video dropped.  With the popularity of that video and several other Friendly videos Jackson was in, a lot of people were hyped for his Proto part.  Sadly he developed some back problems and had to take it easy during most of the filming stages, so his final part was a little short. But, it was still super rad.  Enjoy this one and be ready for the next Armageddon part to drop.

In case you've been blowing it and haven't seen this DVD yet, Proto is uploading the parts for all the world to see for free.  Above we have the intro, featuring some of the gnarliest clips and bails.  Below is the first part, from Brandon Kilbury.  BK's part is a great first part, super clean riding and some really gnar tricks.  That superman grab was so good.  As soon as more of the parts are uploaded, you can be sure to find them right here on Inside.

Dylan Kasson- Half A Decade in Scootering

Dylan Kasson, in addition to being a rad scooter rider, is an equally rad photographer.  Over the past six years, he has been collecting photos of scooter riders throughout his travels.  He is coming out with a book of these photos, including 20 for each year since 2008.  He put up five from each year on his website for the internet to view.  There's a lot of history to be seen, check it out for a glimpse of what the early Proto days were like, to some highlights from last year.

Note:  This is not to be confused with the Scoot Camera project, which is still going strong.

Proto Catalyst on Youtube

Proto uploaded everybody's Catalyst parts to Youtube today.  The whole thing has been up on Vimeo for a couple years now but now the individual parts are up for you to see for free.  This is one of the most influential videos in scooter history so if you haven't watched it before, be sure to set aside the 50 mins to watch each part.  And if you have seen it already, watch it again because it is a timeless classic.  The first section is owner Andrew Broussard's, click on through to their Youtube page to watch the rest.

Cameron Poe Proto/SZ

I heard of Cameron a while ago when he first got on Proto (flow team I think?) but I can't really remember seeing footage of him...which is too bad, because he clearly shreds.  That first clip, not expecting that at all.  And apparently this was all filmed in just three weeks, I'd love to see him work on a six month or so part.

PROTO Scooters Armageddon Bonus Montage + Premiere Reminder

The wait is almost over, this weekend the new PROTO Dvd, Armageddon, is dropping. We all remember the last PROTO Dvd which set the standard for dvds/team videos in the sport. Well my guess is that PROTO is going to be raising that bar to new heights this weekend.
