COPENHAGEN Phoenix X Blunt Euro Tour Edit #3

The dudes arrived in Copenhagen and the destruction continued. I felt bad for that poor green curved ledge at the beginning, it had to be put down at the end, because it was literally killed. The competition footage was bangin, Flavio is a monster. And I love how as each new edit drops, Jessee's injury heals more and more, which equals to him riding harder and harder. Honestly, you just gotta watch the edit to attempt to comprehend how good these guys are.

Jessee, Tyler, and Cooper were all sent from the US by the companies they ride for, and I have to think, that this is what all company owners wish they had. A group of guys that they can send somewhere, and they know, without a doubt, they are going to get some solid ass edits out of the trip. Props to my dudes, and to Pol, Charles, and Flavio. I don't even need to try and sell this video. We all know Coop, Tyler, and Jessee were recently in Europe for what seemed like 6 months, and you know they were stacking clips. Enough clips that this edit has a #1 in front it, so I'm assuming in the near future we will be seeing a few more. And that's a good thing because they really threw down in this one. Despite Jessee being injured, he still killed it. Coop and Tyler go hard, and Flavio, Charles, and Pol have some banger clips as well. Check it out.

Phoenix at D-Block

If you didn't already know, Pol Acena was down in Oregon with the Phoenix Team. When you put someone like Pol, together with Dan Barrett, and Cooper Klaar.. it goes down. And it was definitely going down at D-Block recently. This was clearly just a chill sesh, but with these guys, even a chill sesh looks damn good. Check it.

Inside the Industry: Cooper Klaar Interview

As the freestyle scooter industry grows, more and more scooter riders are getting the opportunity to be employed by companies.  It's really awesome to see companies giving riders a chance to work for them, because it keeps more money in scootering as well as gives riders a chance to gain experience in a professional career field.  We all dream of being a pro sponsored rider, but not everyone can or will be able to accomplish that.  Getting a job in the industry is the next best thing.  Whether it's running a shop, operating machines, filming and editing, graphic design, and beyond, there is a wealth of positions that scooter riders fill, and with Inside the Industry, I'd like to find out more about them.

The next interview is with Cooper Klaar.  Cooper is one of the NW's second generation of riders.  Over the past few years, he's really made a name for himself as one of Phoenix's pro riders, and one of the most tech riders in the sport.  From his double bar combos, to that amazing hurricane full cab to end all hurricane full cabs in his last video, Coop has proven that he deserves his pro spot and signature bars.  I knew he also works in a warehouse for a scooter distribution company, so I hit him up to get a little insight on what it's like.

Jordan Jasa:  Where are you currently located, and who do you work for?

Cooper Klaar:  I live in Vancouver, Washington and work for Gravity Group Inc.

What is your official job title, and what are you responsible for?  

Haha I don't really have an official job title, but I'm responsible for packing orders for shops in North America.

How did you first get involved with working with Gravity Group?

I have known Tom Floyd since near the beginning of Phoenix and when Phoenix and Envy began Gravity Group, Tom gave me a job when there was more work needed to be done.

What’s a typical work day like?

Drive out to the shop in Beaverton, Oregon which takes 20 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. During the holiday season I have been packaging orders with Evan Larson and Chase Robertson but usually when it's not as busy I package orders while Evan types them and prints shipping labels and Chase works in the Phoenix shop cutting metal.

So being a pro rider for and working at the Phoenix shop, do you get any special perks before the rest of the team does?  Extra input on designs, firsthand knowledge on operations, etc?

Being at the Phoenix shop just about everyday I do get to see pretty much everything first, and talk with Tom and Dan about new designs for products, but I'm sure the rest of the team is just as informed as I am haha.

How long do you plan on working there? Do you ever plan on going to college?

I think for a pretty good amount of time, and I'm not too sure what I'm going to do at this point, I'm working and saving money at this point and thinking of what I want to go to school for.

That’s good, too many people go to college without any idea of what they want to do.  So what’s the best part of the job?

It's just really great working with Evan and Chase on the daily, and working for Tom and Tony is pretty fun and lenient!

Bangers in the Bunker

Some of the top riders in the NW got together at the Bunker section of The Lumberyard and made this video...park is new to scooters and they just shut it down already.  Even Stan Smirnoff gets in on the action with a ledge combo.  And I'm with Coop...how do you whip rewind?!?

Cooper Klaar XL Signature Bar Promo

A lot of people have been looking for bigger T-Bars, and those of you who have can look no further.  Cooper's signature Phoenix bars now come in an XL size, at 24 wide by 26 high.  Of course, the 20x23 bars are still available as well.  In this video, Cooper throws a few quick clips at a park to showcase the big boy bars.

Cooper Klaar was one of Phoenix's first riders and has been with them ever since.  Always one of the more unique riders in the sport, his riding stands out with his individual style.  That style is showcased in this awesome part.  Super tech stuff, while still doing it big.  That banger..I think it's safe to say that trick is now over.

Phoenix Throwbacks: Cooper Klaar

Phoenix has a lot of footage that when unused after it scrapped a DVD project.  Instead of letting that footage go to waste, they are deciding to release each rider's footage in a Throwback video. Most of this footage is from 2011, so in scooter years, its like five years old.  Starting the series off is none other than Cooper Klaar.  These clips show Cooper in the height of his tiny bar stage (before his signature bars came out), where he was able to throw double bars and bar/opp bar combos like nothing.  It's been a while since Coop released footy, I'm stoked on this.

The above are clips of both Cooper and Brandon with their old camera.  They recently got a t2i to film with so they decided to put these out now.  Both of them put down some really good tricks, and both of them are sponsored by Phoenix because of it.  Brandon's last clip was super cool, he had some unexpected tricks for sure.  Cooper's railhop clips were crazy too.  Also, Coop has signature bars made by Phoenix that are really good, I own a pair and you should too.

Six Trick Fix X2

Joe Riley decided to do a Six Trick Fix, on flat, in a line. This whole thing took three tries, and just goes to show how consistent Joe is with his riding. Check it. Cooper Klaar and Brandon Miller take on the Six Trick Fix together in this one. They picked a small street ledge, and they killed the poor bastard. Check it.

Homie videos like this make my day.  A few guys riding together, putting in some work to make an enjoyable video.  Cooper Klaar, Brandon Miller, and Nate "Kala" Rita all have really distinct styles, which keeps the video fresh.  Some really sick tricks, worlds firsts galore out of Cooper haha.
