You know, there's really only a few things that a company in our spoty can do that reallyy get to me.
1. Deceiving your customers.
2. Not treating your riders right.
And 3. Blatantly using another companies designs.
I believe we all know how the story goes for companies that try to break out into our sport, with replicated designs, and little to no originality when it comes to their products. If you don't know, it doesn't end well on their part. They end up being seen for what they are and what they do.
If you can't already tell...Yes, there is something going on in the industry that has struck my attention, and the attention of Inside-Scooters affiliate, Lucky Scooter Parts. Now I'm going to refrain from writing the things I truly feel, out of respect for LSP, but below you can read a press release that was issued by Lucky Scooter Parts Owner, Brian Jeide this morning.
Lucky Update:
Lucky has always prided ourselves on being a legit company with our main goal to help grow the scooter sport by actually participating in the sport, sponsoring events, comps, clinics, riders of all ages, giving away free parts and being an open an honest company. We work with 85 dealers/stores worldwide that also support this great sport.
From time to time there will be companies from China and from the US that take a design and call it their own and sell it at a cheap price. It has happened to Phoenix and has happened to us several times. These companies are all in it to make some quick money but they all fail when they realize what it really takes to build a successful scooter company and that it takes hard work, time, and money to be legit.
Be careful when buying parts that seem to be high-quality from unknown and untested companies. Part of buying Lucky is knowing that we make sure that our parts are tested by our team, that are quality controlled for defects, and we guarantee them!
Lucky is just finishing up consolidating our warehouses into 1 main warehouse in Phoenix, Arizona. We are back on track with orders and shipping out daily once again. We will still have a small warehouse and offices in Washington and will always be true the NW!

ReplyDeleteWhen you buy something off somebody. It becomes yours. Margaret created the Inside-Scooters logo you see at the top of IS. I bought it off of her. What this means is that she can no longer use the Logo...because I bought it.

i could see what anonymous is saying only being semi true. For 1 the SMX fork was Jessee Ikedah's sig fork design.
ReplyDeleteit makes me soooo angry to see this happening to lucky. i have never been a huge fan of lucky but i am going to try to support lucky in any way i can after this. just unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculous on so many levels. I am officially boycotting VertX as a "company." Such terribly business practicing. Lucky will live on and it's counterfeit brand will crumble.

I'm not sure I it's clear but according to vertx lucky didn't buy the design they just buy the parts vertx does everything and lucky sold them but vertx wanted to make the prices lower so they opened there own store and there parts were tested by many riders who the sponsored as testers

Lucky is a premium brand, and apparently VertX doesn't care if they end a company who has been supporting this sport for years. It's a complete and utter lack of respect for our sport. It doesn not matter if the owner of VertX owns the designs or not. He's still screwing one of our sports first legitimate companies out of business. And then bragging that he is getting a patent, which will make Lucky parts as we know it, obsolete. Lucky will have to change every single design they have to avoid this patent VertX is trying to get.

I just want to give my opnion on the situation as a normal rider in the scooter world... I realize that scooters have progressed to the point where people are actually starting to notice the possible profit to be made from them. I also realize that vertx did own and develop parts for lucky, however in this situation vertx has basically told lucky to f*** off. The owner of vertx claims he is trying to further the sport of scootering, well how can you possibly be going forward if your are destroying one of the most prosperous companies on the market? The Vertx owner masks his motives by being "active" on the SR forums and telling the public anything they want to hear because unfortuanently they did own the parts first and are basically abusing the fact that Lucky CAN DO NOTHING about it. One last thing to say to the vertx owner, the public ALL REALIZES VERTX DISTRIBUTED TO LUCKY, there is no reason to refer to them as a "previous customer" of your product. Respect their dignity because they have contributed to the sport a f*** load more than you.
ReplyDeleteNot to be too mean, but we recently tried to buy some parts from Lucky, however they were to good to sell parts to us! They wanted a minimum order of $1000.00 and ten other list of requirements in order to buy parts from them. Then didn't return my email. I did not have this problem with Phoenix, district, Blunt, Pro Comp.... OR ANYONE ELSE BUT THEM. Bad Business! Karma! Sounds like they are trying to corner the market? There is enough business for those that do good business!

ReplyDeleteThere is a big difference from using other products on the market as inspiration to blatantly ripping the product off and slapping a logo on it. Phoenix is just about to go through it with a brand in Germany and a well known brand in Australia. Both buying from a factory out of China. The thing is retail stores need to support the established companies, and not buy from these try to be scooter company owners that have no imagination, skill, knowledge and design sense to design their own products they just send the product to a factory and simply say.. COPY THIS.

Okay, where to begin...
ReplyDeleteI personally do not know the full extent of the relationship between LSP and VertX so i cannot go into detail on weather its illegal or who owns the design because these are facts i do not have. What i can say is that What VertX is doing is unethical and is shooting themselves in the foot. Clearly they have no sense of how the scooter market reacts to companies "ripping off" or "copying" designs from another. i can say, they are starting off on the wrong foot.. the one they shot themselves in. Already the brand has bad stigma.
I support Lucky %100 percent on this. I don't know all the details involved between them and I do not need to.
Whoever posted above saying Lucky practices bad business because you were upset about a minimum order... Wow.. really? That is their business policy. If you would like to stock LS P Product then you abide by their policy. A minimum order isn't a bad thing at all. You are purchasing wholesale so that you may resell the product. Lucky's 85 other clients do not have a problem with their business practices.
In closing, It makes me sad to see "companies" entering the scene with no respect for those who are established and have helped to grow this industry to what it is today and what it can become tomorrow. Like i stated above, I support Lucky as a company and as a Quality American Brand.
these companies are gonna have to start protecting themselves tho, cos as far as i know i think only MGP and Razor have patents againts there products.
