i think tom has the right to say that because well he had probably the most gnarliest fall this sport has seen and if this happen to any of us im sure we would be pretty mad also js
let him have hes own opinion jeez, not every company in the world HAS to have nothing but good news said about them, just take it like a normal company would.
When it comes to an incident like that I guess all he can do is blame the manufacturer, but truth is no parts last forever. He shouldn't blame Lucky, as bad as it was ;s
C'mon guys ! ThAT dude just had a harsh fall he has the right to be that angry.ain't no need to call him immature, just angry, and I understand him. Too bad for you guys it happens to lucky scooters parts. It's at least good that you found an explaination for that tho
James, that's not the reason. That cap has had the sides filed down on over 6 pairs of HIC bars, so the edges are no longer too big. Also, you are trying to tell me that an aluminum cap can stratch and cut the inside of a steel pair of bars? Try to cut a pair of chromoly bars with an Aluminum saw blade, not gonna happen. I was the one who jumped the set, the only thing lucky had to do with it was the bars snapping, I do not want this video to deter people from buying lucky parts because lucky is a good company, but I have seen more lucky bars snapped than any other bars, so you guys might want to change up your chromoly.
Also James, I am truly sorry for blaming lucky and I was not trying to be immature, I was just kinda angry when I posted that and watching that video always freaks me out, but that cap had been used with HIC since RAD made the first HIC bars for people to buy in like April 09 and I have been riding HIC since then with the same shim and cap, so the cap isnt tooo big anymore.
Why is he blaming lucky for not giving him quality bars? I'm honestly suprised scooter bars can take that much of a drop anyway (no offence to any bar companys*) But major props to Tom likewise
when i rode my lucky bars they almost snapped too this isnt because of the compression cap its because lucky makes their bars with the wrong size tubing its just some random size i had to make a shim just to ride them with a proto half knuckle becuse the clamp tightened all the way down and was still not even tight on the bars
why was this posted on IS? this should have been a private conversation between LSP and TomK. The fact that they instantly blame someone else makes me wonder about the maturity of their compny.
tom fell hard he has th right the say fuck you lucky i like the forks not the bars thats my opinion but my dad said if uhave ur bars to tight around that peice of aluminum and hit it the metal trys to flex with the vibration and if it has no room to flex from it being so tight it will snap so its not entirley luckys fault
I think Lucky Scooters made a mistake in their responce. They made themselves look bad by finding a reason for the bars snapping. Bars do snap and when pushed this big all it takes is the right angle of impact and a rider thats 100 pounds or more and you get this outcome. Tom had said his hic cap had been used for quite some time and so was obviously worn to the point that it was even with the hic itself. I have seen the caps that Tom was using and they are a bit big but after you use them awhile the edges get worn quickly. It is aluminum vs cro/mo steel and steel will win out every time. I have witnessed fist hand a 75lb kid clear a huge gap at a indoor park while riding a proto with over size bars and snap right at the point of bar insertion into proto. It was a clean break. All cro/mo steel bars are .065 wall thickness. All the companys are using this wall thickness in their bars. It could of been any companys bars. Tom just happens to have chosen Lucky which are fine. I just did not like Luckys attempt at damage control. Putting the blame on the hic cap. Common LSP just say sorry you wiped out kid and be careful when jumping monster gaps/stairsets. I am not preaching here but you guys that are going this big it would be a good idea to put a helmet on. Tom might have had less head damage. I know you would not look so cool on tape but concusions are not fun. I have been there.
Honestly, I can't believe any drama about the lucky bars made the front page of IS haha. The fall was gnarly though, lots of respect to him for trying that.
This is a situation where the owner of Lucky should be making a statment not James Gee. Step up and have the final say Brian! It's not all fancy new wheel colors and making a bunch of money. This is what can happen in a an extream sport.
"Why you should not ride lucky bars, they suck. Not very good quality, but I dont care." - Tom K
Did you read the last 3 words? I DONT CARE. Tom is fucking care free. The kid broke his face, the least I would expect him to do is be be mad, and who else is there to be mad at except for lucky? Himself? Im sure he is mad at himself as it is.
Tom is my fucking homie. I wish him a speedy recovery. The fact that Steven had the audacity to call him "immature" is a fucking joke. The kid is fucking 16 and got hurt and was HOSPITALIZED. Give him a fucking break. Steven owes Tom an apology.
from Alec Bukaweski: Tom definately has the right to say that it was the lucky bars's fault. if the bars wouldnt have snapped he would not have fallen nearly as hard as he did, trust me i was there and i hated going through that i thought something seriously bad happened to him so i am definately on toms side about this no doubt. tom feel bettuh
Sorry to the anonymous above. But I don't feel like I need to apologize. Being called immature is not like insulting someone. You said it yourself, he is 16...and making comments like he made was, immature.
How about you read Tom's own comments? Where he apologizes because he was not trying to be, immature...
When Pro BMXers,Skaters, etc break their parts to they go and blame the company? No because they understand that the sport they do INVOLVES BREAKING PARTS, and TAKING SLAMS. You guys are all acting like if he was using another companies bars, then there would just be NO CHANCE of them breaking.
He made immature comments, he knows that, he apologized. It's done...but by all means, keep being angry about it.
The sentence about quality isn't about the bars, it is about the Video quality lol. I took back what I said about lucky bars, but I see that their response is no more mature, they tell me not to point the finger so fast and then do the exact same thign trying to say it wasn't the bars. I really wasn't mad until I read that excuse lucky tried to come up with.
Honestly... If I owned a company, and someone broke my product, and it resulted in them getting injured... You are already feeling horrible for your product breaking and someone getting as hurt as Tom did.
Then for that rider to say "Don't buy Lucky bars, They suck" or whatever... Yeah, if I was Lucky...I would def. have something to say about it.
I see where Tom is coming from, I would be pissed off as well if I took a slam like that. I would have just gone about talking about it, differently.
The reason the bars broke was because they had a slit. Jon hit El Toro twice with Lucky bars and they didn't snap, but that's because he's riding an SCS. I'm not saying they would have snapped if he had been running HIC, but I don't want to know the answer to that.
And listen to what Dylan said, he speaks the truth.
ATTENTION TO EVERY SCOOTER COMPANY. WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR PRODUCTS INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CHANGE PARTS.TOM OBVIOUSLY DIDNT KNOW ANY BETTER;MOST PEOPLE WOULDNT HAVE.THIS IS SERIOUS,AND WE ALL OWE TOM KVILHAUG A THANK YOU FOR TEACHING US THIS.DONT IGNORE THIS COMMENT UNLESS YOU WANT INCIDENTS SUCH AS THIS OCCURING.To anyone who read this COPY THE ABOVE MESSAGE AND SEND IT TO A SCOOTER COMPANY.THANK YOU
Honestly I think HIC is low quality for big street riding, and i agree with what dylan said. i ride lucky pry bars with scs and theyve held up fine. scs i think is still more legit. no company is perfect though and im sure lucky will try their best to improve the bars.
Its not luckys fault. Lucky didnt tell you go and do and they they didnt say "theses bars will hold up to a 16 stair gap" you took the risk on your own. Sorry to hear that you got hurt. Happened to all of us. Like Steven said. Bmxers break parts and dont say there companys suck. I broken a pair of S&M slam bars and I didnt say they are the worst company every. Its the rider that is hard on there parts. Everything will have a breaking point in some time. Yours just had to be a 16 set. Back in the day when we the OGs didnt have after market parts like you have today and we broke stock a razor decks we didnt say " razor sucks!" we knew going into it we were going to break em one day. like i said before. Sorry to hear that you had a slam but to take it out on a company that had nothing to do with you doing that stair gap isnt right. if you dont agree with me or want to have a chat email me jaydelo@cox.net or if you have my number text me.
dang guys just drop it! Tom obviously was just mad when he said all those comments....he already apologized and said it wasn't luckys fualt so just drop it. nuff said - James Edixon

Im with James and Steven. Yeah ok it sucks that he took that hard of a slam. But shit I ride with lil jon and he hits big shit daily
ReplyDeletei think tom has the right to say that because well he had probably the most gnarliest fall this sport has seen and if this happen to any of us im sure we would be pretty mad also js
ReplyDeleteNo offense to Tom, cause that was a harsh ass slam but I got Lucky bars ive had em for 8 months. No problems yet.
ReplyDeletethe cap are you serious it is not the lucky bars it is the hic compression it weakens the bars when you put a slip
ReplyDeletelet him have hes own opinion jeez, not every company in the world HAS to have nothing but good news said about them, just take it like a normal company would.

ReplyDeleteTom had a serious accident and was lucky to sustain only minor injuries. He is entitled to his own opinion. Don't take it so damn personally.
ReplyDeleteThis post made Lucky look much less professional and lost more sales than Tom's opinion ever would have.
An aluminum cap would do absolutely nothing to CHROMOLY bars. Lucky lost my respect with that half-assed excuse.
ReplyDeleteI think hic bars should now be made with a thicker wall at the bottom and a larger oversized clamp. Especially if you are going to do shit that big.
ReplyDeleteHIC was the problem.. there's no direct link between the bar and the fork...
ReplyDeletewhen i rode my lucky bars they almost snapped too this isnt because of the compression cap its because lucky makes their bars with the wrong size tubing its just some random size i had to make a shim just to ride them with a proto half knuckle becuse the clamp tightened all the way down and was still not even tight on the bars

"...and learns that being so quick to point the finger, isn't always the most mature move. "
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just what Lucky is doing in their "dont blame the bars " response. Just man up.
its not the bars, its the compression. if he used scs that wouldnt have happened. it would have happened with any hic bars.

The riders to blame, he just doesn't land right. Land on your feet not your hands. Lucky don't sell him anymore parts he's a hack

Those comments where made like right when I got out of the hospital, as you can see, I have removed all of them.

Nah I hear you Tom.
ReplyDeleteI just got word that Lucky is also revising their statement. Which will be up shortly.

ReplyDeleteTom, I hope you are ok and wish you a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteBefore I even had time to watch the video or see what happened and respond the Facebook thread had already blown up and IS had a comment posted.
I think if Cody D knew anything about me or Lucky he would know it is not about the money or pretty wheel colors.
Steven is posting my response.

Lucky Scooter Parts
hey tom, I wish you a speedy recovery.... As for all the people dissing lucky, he was doing a 16 stair. I know for a fact that lucky makes good parts, and I think almost any bars would break, especially with HIC. Best of luck tom.
ReplyDeletecan anyone anser me on this one???? i was gunna gel lucky pry bars from lucky scoot but i have scs is their a way you can choose no slit
ReplyDelete
