Inward Chromoly Bars

Yes indeed, Inward bars are now made in 4130 Chromoly, as well as TIG welded. The actual design is still the same, including the 4 inch hidden internal reinforcement. Right now only a limited amount of sizes are available, they should be back to normal once production is revamped. More updates coming soon.

BRIAN MURPHY INTERVIEW

Lets face it, some people are adrenaline junkies. They love the feeling they get when doing something dangerous. They don't care about the risk they might be taking at the time. Once they set their mind to doing something, they do it. For Brian Murphy it doesn't matter if he's riding a mountain bike, a snowboard, or his scooter. When he's riding anything, you're going to know it, because he will be going higher, faster, farther, and harder than any other rider out there.

Jordan Jasa:  The earliest thing I remember about you is a picture of you airing ridiculously high on a quarter, and everyone thinking it was photoshopped.  You were an unknown back then, and nobody believed you until you got some footage and more pictures.  How did that make you feel?

Brian Murphy:  I was so pissed when people called my airs photoshopped but it just made me go hard at quarterpipes with a video camera instead.

A lot of people think you are nothing but a hucker with disregard to your own safety.  Would you agree with them?

I guess a lot less these days though, I’m tired of only being able to ride maybe twice every 2 weeks because of injuries.

 Brian Murphy is a born and raised New Yorker. He lived in The Bronx until he was in the seventh grade, and then moved to upstate New York. However, he is now back living in The Bronx. Scootering wasn't something that Brian was always interested in. Being the thrill seeker that he is, he was a very talented downhill mountain biker. Although, when his bike would break, he would mess around on his old B model Razor, just cruising around doing small and simple tricks. Once his bike would be fixed, he would be right back to downhill mountain biking. One day he ended up doing over 600 dollars of damage to his mountain bike. This would lead to a lot of time off, and more time on his scooter. After about a month of riding his scooter, he decided to go check out the Brooklyn Banks. During this trip to the banks, he would meet future PROTO Teammate Jon Reyes, and an old ScooYork rider Chris Z. He saw the tricks that they could do on scooters, and he was amazed. They soon introduced him to The Scooter Resource, and Brian has been riding scooters ever since.

You have a reputation for being a destroyer of scooters, and it seems like you were no different on mountain bikes.  What all did you do on them to get 600 bucks worth of damage on one day?

Land pretty much flat of a 25 foot bridge drop and just hitting rock gardens with no regard for life or my bike.

How old were you when you first picked up a scooter, and met Jon and Chris?

16, just got my learners permit. I remember that cuz i wrote scooterresource down on my permit.

And that means you've been riding for how long now?

Hmm id like to say 3 and half years, cuz i met them in mid august, and i rode that summer when ever my bike broke.  Summer of 06.

     When he started off riding he was doing tricks like bri flips, double tailwhips, and small rail slides. However, over time his style would change completely. He isn't just another trick rider doing fifty tailwhips, and lots of combo tricks. Instead, Brian prefers to ride huge boxes, ramps, and quarter pipes, and works on flowing them with ease. He does ridiculously huge flairs, back flips, and front flips, all while keeping his eye out for the biggest gap possible at whatever park he is at, and you can bet your ass he's going to attempt it, and most likely, land it. Brian likes riding with just about anyone who rides scooters. Although, ask him who he enjoys riding with the most and he definitely has a list. He likes riding with Matt McKeen, Andrew Broussard, all of his PROTO Teammates, Stan Smirnoff, and Stevon Wilson. When it comes to the sport of scootering, one person who Brian looks up to is Swiss rider, BenJ Friant. For good reason, considering he is one of the best all around riders in the sport today. Outside of scootering Brian also has someone who he looks up to. That person is Travis Pastrana. With everything Travis has accomplished and overcome in his life, it is easy to see why Brian would admire him.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that you can also do some tech grind stuff, in addition to your usual “go big” tricks.  Are grinds a big part of your riding?

Yes, a lot of people don't know but handrail and park rails are one of my favorite.

One of the tricks you think of when you hear “go big” is a double backflip…is landing that in your plans for the future?

Yes it is when i ride the ramp i want to do it on. I’m pushing for andrew's backyard ramp.

You've ridden it before, haven't you, during SD comp?  Were you ever going to try it then?

Yea i was suppose to till me and pretty much the whole sd3 crew got sick and or taken out by a injury.  I had a stomach virus and i wrecked my knee.

Ah.  What did it mean to you to get on PROTO?

It means the world to me to be on a company that is just 100 percent progressing means so much to me and the team is soo chill and andrew is like a best friend to me.

How is your PROTO dvd part coming?

Well, i still want to redo my promo that was never supposed to get leaked because that edit did not have alll the clips i wanted in it and the guy that edits my videos' final cut would not let him import half the bangers. when i found out it was posted i was sooooo pissed. but other then that still filming for the proto dvd.

What was it like riding with BenJ Friant at the Banks Jam?

Well he spent the whole week at my place.  One of the most fun weeks of my life that kid is so gnarly he was killing it at tic, such a chill kid.

    He's got some big plans in his future, he is possibly thinking about making the move from the East Coast, all the way to San Diego, CA. He's also going to be at every competition he can make it to in 2009. Representing PROTO and gunning for a podium spot. Plans for his riding are quite simple, he wants to go higher, go bigger, and ride cleaner while doing it. Not to mention he has the potential to be the first scooter rider to do “The Loop” or hit the “Mega Ramp”. So if you ever get the chance to ride with Brian at a competition or at a skate park, and you can't seem to find him...Look up, because there's a good chance he hit a quarter pipe...and with the way Brian airs, you might want to get comfortable. Because it's going to be awhile.

The Mega Ramp is something that has been talked about for a long time among scooter riders.  What would it mean to you to be the first rider to jump the gap and successfully air the quarter?

A big accomplishment for not just me but for scooters and  i hope it happens soon.  Stan and me been eyeing that thing for a while.  Stan and me will be the first to hit it

So you believe you are ready for it?  Is there anyone else besides Stan whom you think could hit it?

I think I’m ready for it.  Andrew has been trying to get access for a while now and when he does Stan and me are getting a phone call.  And i think Tyler Bonner.

You should definitely check these out if you want a more precise and legit bearing spacer than Razor's. These things come CNC machined so you know they're perfect, and also anodized black. Right now I think only Dogg sells them, tell me if I'm wrong.

Aaron Bransdon and a DSA Team?

 

Aaron “The Aaronmadillo” Bransdon has been respected as a rider, and a person in our sport for some years now.  The 17 year-old, coming out of Penrith, Australia has built a reputation on being one of the most creative riders out there, especially since most Aussies have a typical, defined style.  Aaron’s picture taking ability, as well as being an admin on Scooter Resource, has gained him more respect from not only the sport’s riders, but from industry people as well.  That respect has paid off, as Aaron recently got a position on the new Dominator Scooter Accessories Australian team.  I talked to Aaron (who also happens to be our Australian correspondent) to find out more about his position, and the DSA team.

Jordan Jasa:  So what exactly is your position on DSA..?   You are a team rider as well as the manager, correct?

Aaron Bransdon:  I'm on the team as a rider; and i'll be Managing the Australian side of the Team. We're also looking at myself becoming the master distributor for DSA parts in Australia.

So it would be like how C4 is the main Eaglesport distributor in the US?  Only you’re distributing DSA parts in Australia.

Exactly; I'll more than likely be running a small, online order shop, but also distributing parts to retailers who want to stock DSA product. I've already had offers from 2 shops that are interested.

Nice.  How did you first come into contact with DSA?

I was actually reading an article written by Steven Tongson on Inside Scooters, about the new company; While reading i spotted the words; "Looking to open an international team in the near future", from there i talked to Steven about the probability of myself having a chance at all, he said, "Anything is worth a shot" so i sent an email, and ran through the basic sponsorship process, like most would. This was at the time of XW, and Dave (The owner of DSA) was at the competition exhibiting his wares. I got an email back, and we started to communicate through these, eventually, he called me on the phone to offer me the opportunity of sponsorship, and the job as team manager, and if i chose, Master Distributor.

 

Have you chosen anyone else for the team yet?

I've chosen a select few names, as Dave wants to keep the international team members to a minimum of 3 from each Country that holds his parts. He'll get back to me when he has made his decision on who he wants to represent his company to the best of their ability, my job was simply to narrow it down to a group of Role-models, and ultimately, riders with the right spirit, not just talent.

What are your goals for DSA Australia (if I can call it that)?

My simple goal for the Australian sector of DSA is for it to gain a name not too dissimilar to that of Inward and Eagle. These two companies are setting the benchmark, and i believe every company should be aiming to attain the same recognition as these companies are getting. I believe the parts DSA has to offer can certainly bring about a rather positive reputation, with the aid of the team, spread throughout America, Australia and Europe combined with a general efficiency, quality and legitimacy that Dave certainly provides this company with.

That'll do it, anything else you'd like to say?

Keep a watchful eye on Dominator Scooter Accessories, it's going to go places.

Raise the Gnar Tour: Want to See Your Footage on TV?

Nextsport, the company sponsoring the Fuzion Raise the Gnar Tour, is looking for riders to submit footage of any of the 5 stops on the RTG Tour to them. Nextsport has an agreement with an action sports based network to air all the footage on their station as the tour goes on.

What this means is that you can go to any of the competitions, film as much as you'd like, make a compilation edit of it, and send it into Nextsport. Nextsport would then give it to this TV station, who would air it for the world to see. This would definitely bring a ton of exposure to the sport, not to mention give the filmer/editor a chance to show off their skills. Additionally, this company will be at the final showdown in San Diego to film with their own cameras, and show it on TV as well.

I doubt this picture is actually Chase, it just came up when I googled his name for images haha. Our favorite Mormon scooter rider turns 20 today. He's currently serving his religious mission in Guatemala, and won't be back till October 2010. However, he plans to come back with a bang- he wants to do a sort of Transit-like video after he's back. More on that here. Should be fun for anyone who goes, I know I'd love to make it out.

Tommy Napolitan on French ID!

 

Tommy “Three Ice-Creams in One” Napolitan is one rider who’s progression has been apparent over the years.  Starting back in 2001, basically all he did was no footers and 1 handers, mostly on flat.  He learned double tailwhips in 2004, and got AJ Storcella into riding, and started progressing faster.  But, according to Tommy, “06 is when my riding seriously boomed.”  In late 06 he started riding The Incline Club often, learning tons of new tricks.  It wasn’t until early 08 that Tommy started putting more of an emphasis on street riding.  Today Tommy loves doing triples flat, front scooterflips, and is always trying to figure out what combos he can pull off on a ledge (not to mention some legit handrails, as seen in the below photo and video).  Tommy Napolitan has become a street (and flatground) beast, and his new French ID sponsorship is well deserved.

When did you first become interested in getting on the French ID Team?

After i saw there 2008 video i realized how legit they were. I talked to Mckeen about them and he said they were an awesome company. Also not many people know about them in the US it seems so why not go for the team no one really heres about.

How did it feel when you knew you had a spot on the team?

It was awesome. I was really stoked and wanted to tell my friend Eric who always used to joke with me whenever i didnt land a trick near him. He would say "How you gonna get on French ID riding like that". I also felt kind of accomplished because i really worked hard to get on.

What does it mean to you to be on a sponsored team that includes the likes of Matt McKeen, Jean-Yves (Jandiv), and all those other amazing riders?

It means a lot that my riding could some what be compared to the riders that have been on that team in the past and to be "the new generation" French ID Team.

What are you looking forward to most about being on the team?

I want to spread merchandise in the US because i know they're havin a tough time with money right now. Also i've always wanted to ride there parts. There muffin scooters and bars are so sick.

Now that you are on a French team…are you gonna brush up on your French?

Hahaha it's funny you say that because while BenJ was in NYC he tried to teach me French but it's hard. I know some basic stuff but nothing fancy. I guess im going to have to learn when i go over there.

Regarding Team Inward

Pretty much everyone knows by now that the Inward team is being shaken up a bit. Nate Grant has already been taken off the team, but nothing else has been confirmed officially by Team Manager Steven Tongson to the public. I want to ask that people keep the rumors to themselves, and to just hold tight while Steven finalizes taking people off, and putting people on. I also want to say I support Steven with whatever choices he makes, no matter what I think of those choices.

I also am quite excited to see who gets on myself, the first new rider is expected to be announced tonight.

In Buffalo

Status update on my trip-I arrived in Buffalo, NY for XW4 today, after 14 hours in car. I met the Funk family, Jeremy Beau, Chandler Dunn, and Raymond Warner, as well as Rigel Fuller's mom, at a restaurant. Turns out they're at the same hotel as me, and so we rode the parking lot for a bit. Between Raymond singing constantly, Corey peeing on cars off a bridge, playing but not finishing games of scoot with Capron and Jeremy, I had a lot of fun. Gonna go early to the park tomorrow, can't wait, hope to meet a lot of people there.

To everyone coming tomorrow, have a safe trip, can't wait to meet everybody.
